29/4/2009 07:54 | Relenza is to be used with Tamiflu in a real outbreak. GSK are to increase levels worldwide and government money diverted to them. Got to increase top line profit and see £11 very shortly. | onehanded
29/4/2009 07:48 | ZURICH (Dow Jones)--Roche Holding AG (ROG.VX), the maker of flu treatment Tamiflu, Wednesday said it is working closely with health authorities around the world to make the anti-viral drug available to patients who need it, amid reports of spreading outbreaks of swine flu. The World Health Organization and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed that Tamiflu is active against the new swine flu virus, dubbed A(H1N1), Roche said. The WHO earlier said that GlaxoSmithKline Plc's (GSK) antiviral drug Relenza is also working. To date, Roche has fulfilled government pandemic orders amounting to 220 million treatment courses of Tamiflu. In addition, Roche donated 5 million packs of Tamiflu to WHO in 2006, consisting of a 2 million treatment course "regional stockpile" and a 3 million treatment course "rapid response" stockpile. The regional stockpiles are held by the WHO at various locations around the world, while a "rapid response stockpile" of 3 million treatment courses of Tamiflu is on 24 hour standby and will be deployed at the request of the WHO. The collaboration with WHO and governments is Roche's current priority, given that the United Nations agency alerted to phase IV of a pandemic, meaning that human-to-human transmission has been verified. There are six levels in total, with the sixth standing for a phase where a global outbreak of flu is under way. | bammbamm

29/4/2009 07:18 | A lot of interest in GSK due to the possibility of a pandemic and the use of the Relenza flu drug but surely GSK make many other products that will be used to treat the Pandemic if it takes hold? Antibiotic, drips etc? | mark10101

28/4/2009 21:24 | This is one of the most boring "forums" that I have ever encountered. None of you seems to express an in depth analysis of the financial details of GSK.If you do you will be drowned by trivial postings. Both GSK and Roche's drugs have been stockpiled for the last two years in USA and Canada so there is enough "lung powder" to last for a few months and the elusive vaccine is still to be patented. Prostate cancer is totally unimportant to governments faced with a pandemic outbreak fuelled by a NEW virus. We have to see if the recent bottom holds. The chart looks dire. LOL to all holders and I hope some sanity returns here. Maybe, the crisis has been invented by folks determined to crush the Mexicans and have a breather as World economies turn down...the result could be the predicted collapse of the dollar...the last remaining currency with any energy and always on a comparison with the Yen,which represents stagflation.Remember All in all a horrible situation worldwise and chaos looms. It's all in the predictions from Mayan to Biblical. Remember...wash your hands...as the doctor from WHO advised us,yesterday. lol | amla

28/4/2009 20:52 | WongaUK With respects, it's fun watching amateurs like you lose your 09/10 ISA entitlement, so f'ck off and play with yourself until 08:00 when the big boys come out to play Regard and best wishes Lord Lucan | lord luc4n
28/4/2009 20:51 | Evening. I couldn't follow the markets this afternoon. Did the drop in gsk have anything to do with the American co Dendreon that also released news of a prostate cancer drug? | bammbamm
28/4/2009 20:46 | For Your Attention: CDC: Tests Show Tamiflu, Relenza Can Work Against Swine Flu By Jennifer Corbett Dooren Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Tuesday tests involving antiviral drugs Tamiflu and Relenza against the swine flu suggest the drugs would be effective treatments. The CDC tested virus samples from 13 patients infected with the swine flu against antiviral drugs including Tamiflu, made by Roche (RHHBY), and Relenza, from GlaxoSmithKline PLC (GSK). The tests showed Tamiflu and Relenza were "susceptible" to the swine flu samples, which suggests the drugs would be effective at combating the illness. The CDC said all of the swine flu samples were resistant to older antiviral drugs amantadine and rimantadine. The CDC hasn't recommended use of such drugs since 2005 when they were shown to be resistant to viruses cause seasonal influenza viruses. The CDC noted that Tamiflu was shown to be resistant to some seasonal influenza strains circulating during the 2008-2009 influenza season. The U.S. government has started shipping Tamiflu, Relenza, test kits and other supplies to states to manage the growing swine-flu outbreak, which has sickened at least 64 people in the U.S. Swine flu, first seen in Mexico, has also been found in several other countries in the past two days. Thoughts on tomorrow anybody??? | charles2112
28/4/2009 20:34 | See what I mean? You need to get help. I don't even have an ISA... it's all in your head. Good luck for the future and have a great evening. Wonga. | wongauk

28/4/2009 20:19 | Dear Lord Lucan, I'm sorry to advise you that nobody takes anything you say seriously or takes any notice of you whatsoever. You have no skills, no knowledge, no talents, and no information or facts to back-up anything you puke up. Nobody is remotely interested in you at all. You're wasting your time here trying to 'get your kicks'..... go get yourself a life somewhere. Maybe you have a friend or Doctor you can confide in? This is intended to be a polite message. Get help man. Regards, Wonga. | wongauk
28/4/2009 19:58 | £10 real soon | lord luc4n
28/4/2009 19:51 | Looks like we were not on our own (see below) in todays sell-off. As far as I'm concerned, all of the fundamentals, outlook and technical analysis remain positive for GSK. Astrazeneca fell 2.1%! -------------------- "Flu drug firm GlaxoSmithKline ran into profit-taking after early strong gains, shedding 1.4 percent, and other pharmas fell, AstraZeneca losing 2.1 percent". | wongauk
28/4/2009 19:26 | Regards. DYOR | james dean
28/4/2009 19:21 | On the one hand Washington wants 'A cure for cancer'(they won't get that from generics) and on the other they want to over regulate pharmas with FDA approval and prolong the development process of drugs and then reduce the prescription of non generic drugs to save money, surely they can't have it both ways ? | spondon
28/4/2009 19:01 | mryesyes, As you clearly have no idea what you are talking about please refrain from cluttering the BB with your twaddle...there has been enough rubbish posted here today as it is. FYI, of the 152 suspected swine flu deaths, 20 have been confirmed definite so far. Quite how does this help Mexicos relationship with Obama? Or do you think reports of 'hundreds' of children infected in New York tonight, added to suggestions that Mexico were slow to react will be a good thing for them!! | acumen
28/4/2009 18:53 | "I don't think swine flu will help GSK further. Tamiflu is all we need and the world is well supplied." Relenza has been shown to be effective in reducing the symptoms of swine flu so your above statement is not true. | aquilla
28/4/2009 17:56 | I don't think swine flu will help GSK further. Tamiflu is all we need and the world is well supplied. Also there is no evidence from what passes for heathcare for mexicos pig farmers 1. What happened to the pigs, did they die of flu, bet they still eat them, no talk of cull 2. No evidence of who the 152 are, no evidence swine flu/pneumonia was the proximate cause of death or according to the WHO no evidence they all (any?) had swine flu at all. They probably have one body with swine flu out of the 152 but no proof it killed them. A few 1000 may have it there, but theres tamiflu now 3. Evidence is clear that it passes from human to himan but has less detrimental effect each time, and less effect than seasonal flu 4. The fact only under 45s have got it indicated it probably circulated before the mid 60s and the older people are immune 5. I think the Mexican government has an eye on the international political stage and furthering talks with Obama and this can only help | mryesyes |
