28/4/2009 09:10 | From the newswires: ATHENS (AFP)--European Union Health Commissioner Androulla Vassiliou Tuesday said she was calling an urgent meeting of pharmaceutical groups to discuss how to respond to the swine flu threat. Speaking on Greek radio station City 99.5, Vassiliou said she wanted the meeting to be held in Brussels on Wednesday, on the eve of Thursday's emergency meeting of E.U. health ministers. The aim would be "to establish what medicines are available and how long is needed to develop a new vaccine," she said. "Our problem is treatment," she said. "What the scientists are studying is why there are so many victims in Mexico and not in other countries, if that is down to the virus or to complications." She appealed for greater coordination over the threat within the 27-nation E.U., particularly regarding public information. | bammbamm | |
