Remember that company SHG "THE"? Where they are all now whining about the takeover. Companies don't give a toss about shareholders once they become self-sufficient. But you know that of course. .The first rule of investing is don't fall in love with a share. .Off for a bike ride now the sun is shining, nice day to be out and about. :-)

An interesting piece in a paper and from a writer, neither of whom could be considered as whacky conspiracy supporting gold bugs.

“Of course, the gold spike may be nothing more than wolf pack speculation by funds orchestrating a squeeze on bullion shorts through the options market, knowing that this sets off a self-fueling feedback loop. If so, the rally will short-circuit soon enough.
My bet is that a big animal with a Chinese accent is bracing for geopolitical or monetary disorder on a traumatic scale.”

And the Blower cartoon underlines his point

Especially all those informative news articles about zinc in the Chinese Market. A country where Griffin mining runs a successful operation.
up just a little bit

Indeed, Alan.

I believe that most people would agree with your comment regarding mindlessly ticking down without first reading the post.

Hi Zoo, I never went to the meetings but Roger subsequently mentioned Mr Tall to me. He remembered him for the braces/belt incident….weird really. Please give CD my regards.

Mr Bee, luckily my initial investment at £1.10 was modest. I subsequently traded and it has been my best single share. But with all my trading I never did as well as CD..

GFM is the share that I have held the longest and it is kinda personal for me. My dad, who I love to bits, recommended it to me. I bought in 2006 at a daft price circa £110. It rose to circa £1.26 in 2007 and fell back into the teens. I didn’t want to believe that my dad had given me a duffer. The rest is history..thanks dad.

I think that I said before that although I posted on iii for circa 10 years I never really felt like part of the in crowd. They were fairly tight knit with some excellent posters (including zoo, El, Milwallfan, CD, Mr Tall and various others). I just felt lucky to benefit from their in depth knowledge.

Well done Mr Bee. I have done well here but otherwise have been unlucky. My successes have come from sober asset allocation and grinding out returns. I am currently 30% gold and 70% cash and have been since a few days prior to the non farm payroll data except from my handful of shares. I like Europe, energy, USA, commodities. I think $ will strengthen and that the US/global economy is strong. JPM say that over the next decade China, Europe and Japan will do best (in that order). When I reallocate Europe will be a prime focus. The question is when to bring back China….but I have it via GFM…!

So you can see why zoo has to rush to alan's defence at

Indeed, Sage. I believe Alan managed it with Rockhopper. For myself I made a 100 bagger with Randgold Resources who, at the time, were losing money at Syama and share price cratering. Someone tipped me off that Mark Bristow had employed a team of Malians to dig a trench across their holding at Morila and that the assays were off the scale.
The rest is history. Morila the Gorilla went vertical and so did Mark Bristow, now ceo at Barrick. One lucky break is all you need provided you keep your nerve and ride it to the top.

Problem is - no one rings a bell at the top!
