Did you miss the qualifier "at that time"?."The last divi received... 6th June 2008... 3cents..Not sure what is more shocking... The wait for another to be paid or the exchange rate we got at that time for payment in GBP... £/$1.948 !"

TheApriarist, thanks for your observations. Perhaps it's best to do some due diligence and jump in after the dividend has has been paid.

tygwgy - rephrasing my question: Why an fx rate of £/$1.948 when the current fx is considerably lower? Which bit don't you understand?

George.

Under normal circumstances, as you know, the share price would fall by the value of the dividend. In this case I'm not so sure.

It's quite possible that Institutional Investors and non SIPP/ISA PIs, released from the tax liability and recognising the growth prospects of the business, will hoover up some stock.

It's also possible that payment of such a large dividend (64%) will attract some press coverage for a stock which hitherto has flown under the radar - look at the ADVFN thread - 16 posts in total!

If the dividend doesn't move the price by the payment date (7th May), I shall probably reinvest my dividend.

"He got lut at the right time. Always talk positively when selling"

What you seem to be saying is "always tell lies when selling". Which will surprise no one on this board.

However, it was probably all in vain, as no one on the SHG board took Chestnuts seriously.

Lowtrawler the "eminence grise" on that board who everyone trusted and admired for his insights, had the final word on the matter with:-

"I'm afraid we can only assume chestnuts sold up and moved on while telling everyone to buy as his hedge fund pals would force a much higher price. I can see he is still active on ADVFN, just not on the Shanta thread. Frankly, it was always difficult to believe what he was saying and his predictions / methodology fell into the crackpot category. Hopefully, nobody acted on what he had to say."

Amen to that and it's so telling that you should admire and be in regular PM contact with the said Chestnuts.

Yes Zoo, all fair comments. Oil up, Middle East mess, not great for a manufacturing economy, gold "pausing". But we can't put our collective fingers on the reasons for the interest in GFM. As you say, maybe the takeover. It is an interesting bolt on for a large miner.

Don't all rush for the doors at once, it wouldn't help things!

I hardly think people who held at 168p and all the way down down to the sixties and back up again over several years can be classed as doing well. But each to their own. :-)).You said on GGP you bought SHG a year ago. I looked at the share price a year ago you barely broke even. But you will claim you bought in on the dip catching just right. :-)) Unlike GFM eh?

SHG went extremely well for "short sighted" (read short term ) investors.

As has GFM for early entry investors who have stayed the course.

JPPP,it may well be a case of the rise in the price of gold and zinc. Also maybe some were trapped when the share price went to 168p.and didn't sell, so as the share price has risen they have been buying in order to create a half decent return especially if there is an RNS proposing a sale. SHG is a typical example of how things can go and go wrong for short sighted investors. Gold has now slipped back from 2400, it will be interesting to see what happens this week. Wise investors will be top slicing over coming days if gold slips and the share price stabilises. I've always maintained this is a trading share, in part because it's based in China..Zoo

Well... The board was briefly good. Surely everything has been said, everything has been thrown, there's nothing new. Just move on? Who really cares? This is an investment forum; try to learn, share ideas, figure out what is going on and try to get an advantage in a market stacked against us? The history of the disputes is also well known by all now! Please.......

Sage, very interesting posts. Particularly on the potential sellers, their likely PoA and the illiquidity of the stock hence the volatility. I hadn't really thought of it like that. And the company's approach. I think they are more hands off on the share price.

As someone else said, with all the potential sellers, someone is buying and the price is rising. Is it simply that the offer price is increased each day? And should the offer price drop? I guess it means the market makers know there is demand?

Your 1% rule. That means 100 stocks. That is a lot of work!

Wriggle , wriggle. You could change the perception
people have of you, but you won't. I think we would
all prefer it if you abandoned "zooman" and hid
behind your wife's login permanently. You only come
here to be foul.

You have no idea Rose what I have or haven't been through. So yet again you think you're the only one. What a village idiot. I very much doubt you had it anyway. .It's as Sage said yesterday to everyone on here, you were the person attacking everyone, even him. You have no life other than here making arguments with faceless people.Hence in the main I use ELs sign on, it protects me from creeps like you and your disciples.. Nice to see AAU up this morning. :-)

Rose and "his three disciples" come from different backgrounds, have varying career paths, life experiences, even nationalities.

The one thing that we appear to have in common is a shared contempt for you.

I took my cancer diagnosis and operation in good spirits,
zoo. There is no point in crying about it. If it ever happens
to you, I hope you will be able to get through it without
collapsing into a self-pitying mess, as you seem to think
is the appropriate reaction. 50% of us will have cancer at
some point. Many will survive, as I did.

Another example for farmergeorge of the perils of being open
about yourself in here.

Alan, we mustn't forget his joking about cancer either. Most find cancer a serious matter except him. He's what he is along with his three disciples. Nothing......Gold not flying up as some expected. AAU doing nicely shame he didn't get any shares from his SVE debacle. He can't win them all though can he? But he needs to hold in the first place. :-))
