Oh, I daresay the very positive chart; the huge discount to net current assets; the recent results; word out that this represents a fantastic future growth story; more buyers than sellers; a thin market; few free float shares available; a cheap way into various value plays like TRT and IGE etc;.........you know, a few old things like that.

Plenty more to come, I'd say.

LONDON (AFX) - Gresham House PLC, whose business activity is that of an
authorised investment trust, said its pretax profit for 2004 fell to 827,000 stg
against 1.2 mln stg a year earlier.

Notwithstanding, the company said its results represented an improved
performance for the year as its earnings per share grew to 29.5 pence each
compared with 25.1 pence previously.

The group's property portfolio was reduced at the year end however, falling
to 28.6 mln stg from 37.2 mln, on the sale of property units in Lancashire and
the purchase of industrial and commercial property units in Liverpool.

Hallin Marine Subsea International to float on the AIM on Friday(no pun intended). GHE have 13.2%.Should be quite an uplift from their current carrying value.

Looks like we've hit bottom and will now gently float up to the old trading peaks, over the next few months.

One or two of us see extraordinary hidden value in this balance sheet and the expertise behind it. In particular the huge latent talent which is emerging from TRT. (see that thread for starters to calculate the potential in this large group of interconnecting holdings).

Gresham House says sells 9 property units for 19.75 mln stg
•Fundamentals •Share Price




LONDON (AFX) - Gresham House PLC said it has sold nine property units in
Knowsley, Lancashire for 19.75 mln stg.

In a statement, the company said bank borrowings of 7 mln stg have already
been repaid, resulting in an immediate net cash inflow to the group after
repayments and professional fees of 8.8 mln stg.

The carrying value of the units was 19.25 mln stg.

Gresham Private Equity's newly launched fund.
The coal, chemical, hardware and pastoral services conglomerate said it had
given a firm commitment to invest 100 mln aud and would invest a further 50 mln
aud if the fund surpassed 200 mln aud.
The investment follows the Perth-based company committing 100 mln aud in
1999 to Gresham Investment House's first private equity fund.
Wesfarmers, which owns about 40pct of Gresham, expects the original fund to
provide returns in excess of those originally forecast.
Managing director Michael Chaney said the two funds allowed Wesfarmers to
participate in a segment of the investment market and in a style of investment
not normally available.

Wives, children etc of erstwhile principles buying petty levels of shares recently - is this a training ground, or does someone know something we don't and they are playing "stash away slowly" ? ......... this is a much hidden game whereby stock in lucrative enterprises is bought cheaply and sold later. He who wins is the person with the guts to buy a few assets now and again to build up a little bit of a stack and then sell out later and make a good return. He who makes best % is the winner ................ insider knowledge is the key to winning .............

in response to wots happening, its going down because it has sizeable investment in TRANS TECHNOLIGIES, they took a dive yesterday , now 18p to buy, hence GHE going down too.

No clue. Most of the asset value is in property, and the price is about one third of NAV. I've got in, and am prepared to wait now for a year or so.

this is best perfomer in its class over 10, 5, and 1?year.its steady fall over the past year is an enigma. i've been in and out of this share several times and done quite well -i'd be in again if i knew the reason for its decline. anybody in the know?

I am a vivid supporter of GHE. They have given me a good ride for a long time. It is sad to see the price drop due to some sellers who do not trust Stirling's longterm performance, which you would expect should be reasonable well trusted by now due to his many years good performance.
Also Transense has held firm.
My only consolidation is that the current sellers shall loose out when the price jumps up again.

Have been with these quite a while now & am still waiting for the "bacon to come home". Have also been watching Transense & some of the other plays the boys are into to go with their property bits (e.g. MTP).
My guess is that the spread is the MM's way of achieving a profit out of the very low volume of trades. Many day's go by without apparently a single sausauge being sold ...... I am hopeful that the slow gains will be secure.
