01/10/2024 11:51 | In the FTSE 250 index, a third quarter update by Greggs left its shares 3% or 96p weaker at 3028p. The food-on-the-go firm reported a 5% increase in like-for-like sales in its company-owned stores, slower than the 7.4% seen in half-year results but against tougher comparatives the year before. An improved cost outlook and September’s strong finish to the quarter meant analysts at Jefferies said they saw no reason to change their positive stance on the group. The bank has a target price of 3450p. | philanderer
01/10/2024 09:01 | Greggs’ growth story shows signs of cooling Sausage roll slinger Greggs PLC (LSE:GRG) displayed a slower rate of growth in the third quarter against some admittedly tough 2023 comparatives. Total sales were up 10.6% in the 12 weeks to 28 September, compared to 20.8% in the same period in 2023. Company-managed shop like-for-like sales were up 5%, nearly a two-thirds below the 14.2% rate of growth in 2023. But while sales growth is beginning to cool, Greggs’ management “expects the full-year outcome to be in line with its previous expectations”. proactiveinvestors.c | philanderer

30/7/2024 13:53 | Greggs sales surged 13.8 per cent in the first half, as a successful over-ice drinks range and dedicated pizza deals boosted the backery chain's growth. The Newcastle-based group, known for its sausage rolls, said its sales reached £960.6million during the six months to 29 June, growing from £844.0million a year ago. Like-for-like sales grew 7.4 per cent. Sales growth was bolstered by the strength of the firm's over-ice drinks range, with products such as its Mango and Strawberry Cooler now available in 500 of its locations. Its Late Trade Pizza Deal and Pizza Box Deal have also proven a success, as the firm says hot food continues to see strong sales. The bakery has recently launched a four-slice pizza. Its Delivery channel also grew, with delivery representing 6.7 per cent of company-managed shop sales during the first half, up from 5.3 per cent last year. Matt Britzman, senior equity analyst at Hargreaves Lansdown, commented: 'Greggs has showcased its strengths once more, as the UK's favourite baker continues to deliver. 'A high bar's been set over the past year or so, but results have beat expectations once again. 'The value offering that Greggs is so well known for has been holding it in good stead of late, and it was good to see that continue over the half with like-for-like sales well ahead of the industry average.
