19/10/2009 08:39 | Gardening Direct division showing 30% increase in sales for the quarter, after recruiting another 22,000 new customers which = 74,000 this year against 46.000 for 2008. They seem very pleased with the advertising campaigns also. Flying Flower sales were down to £1.38m (£1.58m), but company state that last years sales were achieved at unacceptably low margins, and they expect to see benefits in last quarter. Management have the Gardening Division performing extremely well, and there is no reason why the Flower Division will not be any different. | interceptor2
19/10/2009 07:36 | Good statement. As they said at the interims, H2 depends on Gardening's performace in the autumn. Gardening is 60% of the business - up 15% lfl. Flowers down a bit but margins up and now re-launched. CD's and collectables (a small part) off a bit but greater earnings from collectables after the revised agreement recently. All in all it's the gardening that really matters and thats going great by the sound of it. CR | cockneyrebel
16/10/2009 21:46 | err, no. The debt is lower so interest charge falls and increases eps - which offsets the dilution. the shares are issued once, the interest is saved year after year. CR | cockneyrebel
16/10/2009 19:39 | 2 sides to every story there are more shares in issue now so eps will be held back surely? | dnfa1975
15/10/2009 20:17 | Agree with Shanks - renewing their loan facilities may well have involved a 'bend over a take it up the jacksy' arrangement fee. Most of these arrangement fees banks are charging amount to one years interest on the loan - it's chuffin robbery. I agree it would have been nice if we'd all had a look in @ 75p but lets face it, if we wanted the shares that badly we could have bought them at 75p in the market a few weeks ago (and I did and below that too :-)) Doing an open offer would have had far greater costs than doing the placing so there is that benefit for the company. Having done a placing at 75p is it likely that they weould now have a trading statement that was poor? I would have thought those in the placing become insiders and would want to know the co isn't going to issue a poor trading statement and see the shareprice get hit. I'd want any bad news in the open before taking part myself. On the other hand I'd be pleased to take up a placing at 75p if I though ther was likely to be good news in the offing. Anyway, that's an optimists view of it but overall it's a positive if it's going to get rid of most of the debt. Looking at the interims I reckon the interest saved will add around 10-15% to the post tax profit through having debt nearly wiped out. CR | cockneyrebel
15/10/2009 19:54 | These should be well financed now and management can now concentrate on growing the business. Shares should move up rapidly in due course. | cfro
15/10/2009 13:59 | Good move to raise 1.76m and pay off most debts, just a shame we couldnĀ“t join in as per normal. share price should now have good support at 75p imo. | interceptor2
15/10/2009 08:46 | If the loan(s) had to be renewed, there would probably have been a take-the-p1ss arrangement fee that would have made the effective interest rate much higher. If this is the background to the placing then the only downside is not having been offered shares at 75p in the placing. | shanklin
15/10/2009 08:10 | bank loans appear to have an interest rate of nearly 6.7% so proceeds used to repay most of this remaining expensive debt by sounds of things. leaves biz with almost no debt, placing has been taken up by 4 institutions. | aim11
15/10/2009 07:48 | That's why FBDU now offer courier dnfa (or GYAU) as your other handle is known - one of them anyway) Placing today looks like a way of not being bent over a barrel by the banks imo - good for them, banks have been milking businesses recently. CR | cockneyrebel
15/10/2009 00:26 | Post office resurrected in garage Applecross in Wester Ross also lost its post bus service this year A village's post office has been reopened in a converted garage. The service in Applecross in Wester Ross was closed following an audit by Post Office inspectors in February. Villager Roger Cundiff will operate the office from his garage 12 hours a week. The arrangement is temporary until a longer term solution is found. Applecross also lost its post bus service earlier this year. It was on one of five post bus routes in the Highlands withdrawn by Royal Mail. | dnfa1975

09/10/2009 08:18 | Worth checking the Flying Flowers website which has been revamped and looks much better. I did E Mail them to a few months ago saying the website looked a bit corporate, and they needed to look at the Bunches site. They probably had planed to revamp it anyway, but either way the changes are much improved. | interceptor2
