Market not happy with another loss + computer upgrade (£10 mill ?)so getting hard to argue the case to buy Flybe but in my crystal ball I'm getting $18 million in saving in fuel 17/18 compared to 16/17 based on 120000 tonnes fuel and a £6 million hit on Project Blackbird 17/18 down from £10 million 16/17 and a saving of £8 mill in switching from leased to purchased aircraft in 17/18 so with circa £25 million + savings 17/18 a new CEO and capacity issues behind us maybe a profit next year ?

1fox1: The Guardian is good at money - it runs as a charity... The Editor has a global understanding of the business..

From Wiki:

In January 2013, Viner's relocation to Sydney to supervise a new Guardian digital edition in Australia was announced;[17] this venture was launched in May 2013.[18]

Viner delivered the AN Smith Lecture in Journalism at the University of Melbourne in October 2013.[19][20] D. D. Guttenplan, London correspondent of the American Nation magazine, wrote in March 2015 that "there is no one on either side of the [Atlantic] ocean who has thought as deeply as Viner about the relationship between readers, technology and the future of journalism."[21] Guttenplan is not totally convinced by Viner's "eagerness to transcend print" in the move to digital media, but commenting about her 2013 speech in Australia, he writes that "her arguments for the importance of reader engagement, and for sustained, original reporting of information that someone, somewhere, wants to keep secret are compelling and convincing."[21]

In the summer of 2014, Viner moved to New York and became the new head of The Guardian's American website in succession to Janine Gibson.

Nice purchase from Christine, makes a good vote of confidence and surely these are close to a steal. I intend to add a few if it goes into the 30's.

Fair comment but my daughter works at the Sun and the Guardian is like the Economist compared to that rag.

Articles like this make me think Flybe would be more of a takeover target than before Brexit.

The cash outflow is mainly because they have purchased previously leased aircraft via a mix of cash/debt. So net assets will be similar just on average slightly less liquid.

Hi s34icknote: Sounds great to me. Get rid of IT systems in a ONE OFF go, clear the decks so that "year two" ready for blast off.

The reason we're currently at 40p and not £1.50 is because of this situation.
I'm in for the "long haul" flight to £1.5 come what may.

Tally ho!

post 3433. they have plenty of cash but also more debt.

that is why it called NET debt.

ved have plenty of cash but even more debt so they are in a net debt position but make good returns so can service debt and pay dividends

the trick is to trade profitably so you can reinvest in the business and service that debt when needed.

the risk is that you start making losses, burn through the cash then cannot service the debt.

what happens with flyb I've no idea!

Only time will tell if Christine can do better than Hammad, who I guess is spending plenty of his ridiculous pay off down the garden centre these days.

Indeed insiders getting rid of their stock prior to us mug PI's.

We can add this cost to the bottom line as well !

What a miserable hold this has been, and Christine having to defend a poor safety record does little to inspire confidence.

Now we know why share price down recently and, with today's announcement, I believe it will fall further. With the level of losses including so called exceptional a, IMHO we awe now looking a further 12 months out before any substantial share price increase!

What chances a Q$ update in April rather than wait until June for full year figures? Though judging by recent share price movement, perhaps Q4 has been a disaster and they want to leave it as along as possible before breaking the news!

(whoops I've leaked my thoughts)

May 2015 this stock went ballistic!
April 2017 - lets see what happens!

Can't be many flybe private investors left whose hobbies don't include watching paint dry. Most large trades lately are negotiated so just institutions doing what institutions do imo

Same here, holding a couple of years. Now we have decent hedges in place and oversupply of seats is being addressed the next 2 years should be good since we are valued to collapse. We have the most new routes and they have to mature but our load factor on the Q400 doesn't have to be as high as the other carriers which is the yardstick the market uses but until capacity issues are resolved to the bottom line you can't argue with the market. Be nice to change the rose tinted specs for some Ray Bans :)
