Great stuff roddiemac, extremely useful and positive info. Thanks for that.

- good to hear there's room for further acquisitions
- if Marine Oil continues to improve it'll make a big difference to profits due to its low tax charge
- sounds like there are more energy sector support services contarcts to come. These should help drive up FSJ's rating.

A couple of weeks ago I contacted the company , and this is what I gleaned.-- Any ongoing organic expansion will not preclude them from making acquisitions.

They can allocate £ 15/20m. a year to acquisitions.

They are prepared to have gearing up to 100% , if necessary.

Marine Oil---- They have not sold any more of their fleet. They expect about £2m. next year ( roughly double ) , and hope to get back to £ 3/4 m. in time.

They are bidding for several contracts of a similar nature, but not size, to the Angola contract they won late last year. They sounded optimistic on this front.

Intriguing RNS today - FSJ showing themselves off to the City. I wonder if this marks a more aggressive approach to telling the investment community exactly what they've got (I always thought FSJ were a little under the radar)?

"Strainstall supply Carousel Tension Monitoring System
28th Nov 2012

Strainstall Marine had provided a tension monitoring system for MAATS Tech Ltd, a specialist designer and supplier of turnkey carousel projects. These bespoke carousel systems are supplied to specialist ships, and can handle flexible pipe, umbilicals, power cables and chain for laying on the sea bed. In order to achieve precise placement, the cable/pipe is fed through a tensioner before being laid. Strainstall supplied bespoke load pins that were installed in the tensioner to provide MAATS with real-time tension levels. Amplifiers provided as part of the system send the load pin readings directly to the tensioner controls, enabling the system to increase or decrease tension levels as required to ensure that the correct tension levels are always maintained. Should the tensions exceed pre-set limits (as a result of snagging for example), the system will automatically shutdown. This helps prevent application downtime and damage to the carousel and cable/pipe.

The carousels are situated on the vessels deck and so are subject to harsh oceanographic conditions. This meant that the load pins also needed to be able to operate in challenging conditions, so Strainstall installed their proven marine load pins, which have been specifically designed to provide long term operation in marine environments without any compromise in functionality and accuracy."

News dated 15h November - looks like good recurring income going forward:

"Maritim Trading AS sign exclusive agency agreement with Fendercare Marine
•Exclusive agency agreement to supply a range of Fendercare Marine products
•Further strengthens Fendercare Marine's global network of agents

Fendercare Marine, one of the world's leading suppliers of marine products and services, has signed an exclusive agency agreement with the Norwegian Marine equipment supplier, Maritim Trading AS.

The agreement is for the supply of a variety of Fendercare Marine products including EJ Bean bollards and deck equipment.

Bill Wilkes, Fendercare Marine Sales Manager said "Having worked closely with Maritim Trading AS on some technically challenging projects in the supply of quayside equipment, we have been impressed by both their professionalism and desire to achieve the best outcome for their clients. This agreement allows us to formalise our successful long standing relationship."

The Norwegian company Maritim Trading AS has their headquarters at Ågotnes near Bergen and a branch office on Halsnøy. They provide equipment to the marine, offshore and land-based industries including valves, winches and hoists, slip rings, mooring equipment, ladders and gangways.

The importance of Norway's historic maritime industries to the country's economy - including oil and gas and fishing – have led to it becoming a world leader in the sector with the knowledge base, infrastructure and political support to ensure further growth.

Lars E Tjelle, Marine Equipment Manager from Maritim Trading AS, commented: "We are delighted to have signed this agreement with Fendercare Marine. We have worked with Fendercare Marine on projects for many years and look forward to completing many more projects in the future.""

As an aside, I note that FSJ is extremely close to automatic entry to the FTSE 250 for the next review in December.

The current m/cap is £392m, and automatic entry is with £415m. However, there are a number of companies with FTSE 250 positions who've now slipped below FSJ in the rankings, so it may just be that FSJ will get in next month.

The way FSJ is trading, it shouldn't be too long anyway, at which point the share price may get a nice boost from tracker funds etc.

James Fisher Nuclear taking part in a UKTI-sponsored trade visit to Japan and South Korea - there must be huge opportunities for decommissioning work etc in Japan especially:

It is "aimed at increasing awareness of Britain's nuclear capabilities to the Japanese market post Fukushima.

It is the first time a delegation of this kind has visited South Korea, where the objective is to learn more about the country's plans for new build both at home and overseas, as well as decommissioning.

BEC is financially supporting a delegation, which includes 12 companies from West Cumbria, which will travel to South Korea to meet representatives from the Korea Atomic Energy Forum and businesses including Korea Electric Power Company and Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power."

rivaldo -

I was talking about the spreads that come up on screen when trying to deal on-line. How do you trade inside them? By putting in a limit order?

:o))

Puts my 2 1/2 years here into perspective. My longest-held holdings are probably around 6-7 years, and there's only a couple of them at most.

The need for FSJ's services is growing globally and should only continue to expand, so I'll hopefully be staying put for a while.

Bouleversee, note that you should ignore the published bid and offer prices as you can almost always trade well inside them. The true spread is therefore a lot smaller than it it may appear.

That's nothing; I've held Oxford Instruments since July 86, bt at 535p. They've gone up a fair bit in the past couple of years or so but if you want to understand my enthusiasm for Fisher and reluctance to part with any, just compare the performance and dividend history of those two companies.
