Liberum analyst Ben Davis has forecast pellet production of 5mn tonnes for 2024, a 20 per cent increase on last year, and said added export options could result in a more significant hike as soon as the second half. “This is on the assumption that the Black Sea export routes become financially and logistically viable,” he added.

Ferrexpo's full-year results were a mixed bag, according to Liberum analysts, as revenue beat estimates but pre-tax earnings missed.

Ukraine-based, the iron ore pellet producer recorded a US$85 million pre-tax loss for the year to December on Thursday, against a US$220 million profit last year.

This was largely due to Ferrexpo’s US$131 million provision to cover “any possible negative outcome” from two ongoing legal cases.

“Ferrexpo continues to believe that these cases are without merit,” Liberum highlighted in a note, where it reiterated a ‘buy’ rating and 220p share price target.

“We do believe that it would be very politically sensitive if punitive fines were made against Ferrexpo, impacting institutional investors, when the actual target of the actions is the major shareholder,” Liberum said.

Revenue came in 48% lower at US$652 million, due to logistical constraints and reduced iron ore prices, though Liberum said the figure was ahead of expectations.

According to the bank, news that Ferrexpo had restarted the third of its four pelletiser operations in February was the highlight of the update, reflecting improving European demand.

Logistical challenges seem to be easing while access to export markets improves, Liberum said.

“;The previously reported net cash position of US$108 million leaves a comfortable buffer against further disruption,” the bank added.

It seems to me reasonable to say that the Ukraine will be unable to sustain the war for years...lack of man power and still losing 200,000 dead a year with further circa 500,000 so severely wounded per year are unable to take part in the fight again or have anything further to do with being productive members of the Ukrainian work force.....lack of ammunition, some Ukrainian artillery commanders on the front lines are saying they've had not shells to fire for over a month.

In the first year of the conflict the Ukrainians were managing to shoot down 70% of Russian missiles whereas this year lucky to take out even 5% and often not able to even shoot down a single one. Night after night the Russians are now attacking the Ukrainian logistic hubs all over Eastern Ukraine.

Last night a lone the Ukrainians lost 5 fighter jets on the ground due to Russian missile attacks.

For every 1 tank the Ukrainians are managing to get to the front lines the Russians get 10. For every 1 artillery system the Ukraine's manage to get to the front lines the Russians get 10.

There's no way I can see this conflict dragging on for years.

bell - Even the most pro-Ukrainian Western media outlets now have headlines that the Ukrainian frontlines are collapsing.

Senior Ukrainian military officials said "parts of the front line are dangerously close to collapse" and that Russia will likely be able to "penetrate the front line and to crash it in some parts."

I am sorry that my guess as to the way the FXPO share price would go has proved all too prescient. I fear it is too late to get out now, save for those with very large holdings, of which I hope there are none here. For the rest, I guess FXPO is now one for the sock drawer, with the hope rather than expectation that some years down the line it may come good. A bonus if it does.

The USA does not wnt to fund more than one war, and the Middle East is now the focus of US interest.

If the USA loses interest in paying, Ukraine cannot go on. It would be wise to make peace now, while it still has a bargaining position.

"Ukraine are categorically NOT on the brink of defeat"

Wouldnt be so confident in such a claim if I were you.

Firstly, if you take the size of Ukraine's population, the number of estimated casualties and the fact that large numbers of Ukrainians have left the country(ie run away rather than fight) added to the fact that the Govt is now conscripting men up to the age of 65+

the signs are all there that it isnt winning.

Usually things are no where near as bad as the media, especially Western media makes out. Western media and news in now driven by clicks and views and not facts, they go on and on about it until the story goes viral.

The media, especially Western media work off sensationalism and not facts.

I'm wondering when it comes to climate change, the real people in power and control are more worried about Global Cooling and not Global Warming???

Last night I happened to be looking at my local airports hourly temperatures since 1974 and something stood out like a sore thumb.

All years since 1974 (except for lock down 2020), the second half of Spring has just 1 or 2 days, during day light hours in the Temperature Comfortable range and the odd hour here and there, all the other days and hours are in the lower Cool temperature range.

However...the last 5 weeks of the 6 week first lock down during 2020 the second half of Spring when there was very little human activity, all day light hours were in the Comfortable temperature range while 80% of the night time hours were also in this range. I remember how sunny the time was and how my next door neighbour at 17.00 would sit out side in the sun for a couple of hours enjoying a glass of wine or two with his wife, has not been able to do so since or before.

Since 1989 at my local airport the lowest nightly temperature in each of the years has ranged between 0C and -3C (0C in 2020 the lock down year & -3C in 2022 the other years being -1C or -2C) The highest temperature recorded since 1974 at the airport was in 1983 followed by 2023, then 2003.

I can remember in the late 1970's and up to the mid 1980's all the talk was about, is the next ice age coming and looking back at documentaries this goes back to the early 1960's. Then suddenly Al Gore came a long and said it's all about global Warming and "I endorse this message," which by the way he's made many hundreds of millions of dollars out of.

2 pieces of news out in the past day:

1. Europe unable to send anymore air defense systems to Ukraine - Why? - Most probably have no more left to send.

2. Ukrainian General "Most Ukrainian Brigades are now only operating at 40% strength and need 100,000 more men to just plug the holes in the current brigades."

"Most of the Ukrainian soldiers in the field now need to be replaced because they are completely exhausted and need a further 150,000 new men for this."

As can be seen, even Ukrainian commanders are saying their situation is now critical and getting worse by the day.

If the Ukrainians raise the white flag then in all likelihood Ferrexpo's mines will shortly after be in Russian territory.
