65 trades today by golly in a stock that is usually fortunate to genrate that no in a one week.

Does anybody know the reason for this sudden interest, what is there to know that we didn't know yesterday? Nothing imo, but others are learning what we already know. From what I have seen elsewhere there must have been an announcement that j/v oil venture co is to be listed on AIM.

Am I right in thinking that we, as holders of fkl will be offered an allocation of the j/v co stock?

FKL closed at 447p (+70p); however, last trade was 5,000 shares @ 495p.
That 'premium' makes the day's rise more like +110p; possible stock shortage -Interesting!!

"There is more to this than meets the eye............."

You could be right given the aftersales trades, don't usually see those on FKL.
I see it's also the biggest riser in the market today
Don't suppose it will even get a mention over the weekend due to the fact the press won't have a clue why it's going up !!

Just for information, Chairman David Hudd, ex-Price Waterhouse, used to work closely with entrepreneur Jimmy Goldsmith. So why has David chosen a small £25m company miles from anywhere to get involved with? There is more to this than meets the eye, and he would not be involved if there were not major bucks to be earned during a five-year-+ tenure as Chairman. This could be the launching pad for the next Jim Slater/Jimmy Goldsmith success story.
FKL is currently up 50p this Friday 13th afternoon! A £100m cap would put the share-price on about £12 for starters. Market currently short of stock IMHO.
Be lucky . . . . .

The squid DOES mean squat, because it's part of the basis of the company and the thing that makes FKL a much safer bet than the normal exploration play, be happy they make a profit, are a sound company AND have a huge speculation play ahead over the next weeks/months and years.

I am never very bullish due to a cautious nature, but I am of the opinion this could top £10 next year if the results of mineral exploration are good.

From this weeks Penguin News (you have to love the name, who needs tickers and real time streaming when you have the Penguin News to keep you in touch ?!!)

LOLIGO GOING WELL
CATCHES of loligo squid are continuing "quite well", according to Marine Officer Jon Clark.
Mr. Clark said the average catch this week was around 20 tonnes per ship per day.
He said some ships had also reported high catches of over 40 tonnes in one day.
He said "by and large it's going well...the fishing companies seem pleased so far."

Well keith lets hope it's all profit for you from now on. Such small dealings don't half move the price tho, shouldn't complain but that works two ways. tt.

I suspect that they will find more than gold but it is still a mystery as to why this stock never attracts any attention at all from ADFN on it's twice daily reports. Spread is ridiculous at 20p though.

Also only another 2.5p rise and I have made my money back after 12 years!!!!!!!!

Well the Agm statement is encouraging on the trading front and we can presume continuing and hopefully, improving performance.

The mining survey results, anticipated by now, are a little behind schedule, but expected soon. The action will be from the minerals explo's first. Since the Geologists have confirmed that east Falkland separated from the south east landmass of Africa then the possibilities of diamonds as well as gold are high.

Interesting to note the Chairmans comments re the tramway and tunnel at Portsmouth harbour (see my earlier post). Now it all makes sense to me, now knowing that the Co were expecting that project would fail explains that investment. They must have had some strong inside info otherwise it was a big gamble. I agree with the earlier poster who suggests there will be a full takeover of the Ferry Co and that won't be too far ahead imo.

The Islanders should well be able to afford to tuck a few of these shares away, it is a little known, but indeed an astonishing fact that Falklanders have the highest per capita income in both South and North America and that includes the USA & Canada.

AGM statement is good news.
I had read the first couple of weeks of the squid season had been poor so the increase from retailing to compensate this is good news.
I think this must be one of the most interesting shares in the market at the moment.
The fact there are so few of them about.
The fact that a couple of extra cruise ships a year can improve profits, etc etc etc.
The speculation that drives oil and mining companies to have those daft (and exciting!) ups and downs has not hit FKL yet but it wont be long.
The real plus from the investment point of view is that even the initial exploration will make money for them. Extra people involved in mining, supply vessels, transport, the list goes on. People need places to stay and shops to supply them. They need transport. Supply vessels need bunkering and other facilities.
FKL stand to make money from all of this and with such a small amount of shares available it's no surprise of how little volume does a lot.
Wouldnt be surprissed at every islander has a few of these tucked away, they will also know what is happening before the market does, it's always the way in small communities. Worth keeping an eye on those small volume trades!
Everyone should have a few of these just for the fun of it!

The Rapid Transit system from Fareham to Portsmouth still seems to be on the books of South Hampshire. A company called Eagleswift had a takeover bid for PHFC early in 2003. 2005 is a big year for Portsmouth Harbour - the 200th anniversary of Trafalgar. The new ferry is called "The Spirit of Portsmouth" (to join "the Spirit of Gosport"), and will do pleasure cruises as well as ferrying. If FIH intends to take over PHFC, the current high price will help an all paper bid.

For another slant on FIH (FKL):

Hi Grgkecer.

Thanks for those links, that hants.gov link was from wayback. The latest news on that front dated 20th July 04 tells us that original costings, on which Government promised 70% funding, were way too low and further funding has been refused. So the grand plan for this tramlink is at best on hold.

I can't help thinking this to be rather a strange investment for FIH as a first toe in the water as a UK target, unless there was some other motive. Would you invest in a Ferry Co in an area where there was to be such new compeition as this tram and also a tunnel? It doesn't make sense to me but extra Ferries in the Falklands do when they come cheap because you already own a proportion of them. Maybe this latest news will throw a spanner in the works on any ideas in that direction for the present time. In the meantime a holding in a Co that has earnings of 223p per share and pays 50p dividend per share will do very nicely thank you.

Price ticking up again today. share price is very sensitive to small puchases though. There were 27 trades, mostly 500/1000 lots, mainly buys with 1 big buy of 10k, News was promised by end of July of the analysis on the mineral data collected on the land sites, maybe somebody knows something ahead of an announcement which would explain this weeks upward movements, so we may get that announcement tomorrow or Monday.

The only things I have been able to discover concerning Portsmouth Harbour Ferry Company are that there were/are plans for a rail-line between Fareham and Portsmouth which would cross the harbour mouth and take away PHFC's business , they ordered a new ferry from VT Halmatic in February 2004 , and that there is some link through a director to Southern Vectis (SNV) .

"strange how nobody is interested in this as it shoots up"

It would be preferable for it to stay that way for the while, moving up nicely without creating too much attention.

A very interesting share with lots of potential upside and very little downside. I like the chairmans statement of intentions to make the most of all opprtunities, pity they sold that land (if the previous poster in an earlier thread was right about that) The spin off potentials are enormous should there be recoverable amounts of either or both hard and liquid minerals and benefits here to be gained from the Desire activities too.

Interesting to note the increased stake in the Portsmouth Ferry co today. Does anybody know the rationale behind that venture?

Below I have copied a post I put on one of the TMF boards a couple of weeks ago, anyone with an interest in FKL will find this really useful.

Board readers will find this new site a mine of information and well worth adding to your tools.

NEW FALKLANDS HYDROCARBONS WEBSITE:

A new website has been set up to capitalise on the growing interest in oil exploration in Falklands waters. The site, www.falklands-oil.com is full of technical information aimed at companies that are interested in oil prospecting, to save them having to call the Department for details of the potential for exploration. Designed by Alex Blake and hosted by the British Geological Survey, the site gives details of exploration already carried out, future potential and the logistics of doing business in the Falklands. At this morning's meeting of the Mineral Resources Committee, Director, Phyl Rendell welcomed the site and said it had come about because of the steady rise in the number of enquiries being received by the Department.

I reckon it will be tipped somewhere soon after they have filled their boots first. A long string of small buys tempted me in.
I think rab may be stake building.
The facts are mkt cap 20m of which say 10m due to existing business.
Therefore 10m buys you 29% of the oil co to be formed.
If we take a low estimate of 1billion barrells of oil remembering the farm in partners ie hardman and funding via rab is in place then if they only get a third out and fkl receive 100p per barrell then that is 300m quid in the bank.
You effectively get a pop at that 300m for 10m.
If you look at the risks the downside is 50% and the upside is enormous.
someone with wad has worked this out imho so dont sell up too soon as this should multibag.

the mm gimps will appear soon to deramp to get your stock.
have a look at desire, they are further down the road but that share is still dirt cheap as a risk/reward play the mm know it and have played their games.
fkl is still dirt cheap imho.

greg: I agree. But what is driving it? The news has been good but there are few trades to support such a rise and we will have to wait until November for full test survey results. I hope it continues as once it gets to about £4 I make all my losses back plus a small profit.

Interesting to note that CMR (partner in the mining) are going nowhere.

From the 2004 annual report:
Allotted called up and fully paid
As at 1 April
6,170,037 Ordinary shares of 10p each
Since then 66,268 shares issued for Portsmouth Harbour Ferry Co. and 311,815 placed, making a total of 6,548,120.

It appears that the flotation of the minerals (FML) and oil (FOGL) companies on AIM is under consideration to finance further exploration.

"Our strategy is to continue to develop our operations in the Falklands and to generate potential upside from our exploration activities whilst utilising our operational experience to diversify into related areas."
