Looks very good chartwise.

On the one year chart - broken through the neckline of an IHS at about 12.5p.

The rising 50 day SMA should pass through the rising 200 day SMA tomorrow, forming a Golden Cross.

Nicolas Hulot, Agnès Buzyn, Stéphane Travert and Frédérique Vidal present the action plan to reduce the dependence of agriculture on plant protection products.

Nicolas Hulot, Minister of State, Minister of the Ecological and Solidarity Transition, Agnès Buzyn, Minister of Solidarity and Health, Stéphane Travert, Minister of Agriculture and Food, and Frédérique Vidal, Minister of Education Research and Innovation, today presented an action plan on plant protection products and a less pesticide-dependent agriculture.

The action plan incorporates the proposals of the stakeholders consulted since February 15th. The economic actors concerned, representatives of civil society and local communities have thus been able to contribute to enriching the government's initial project.
This plan is structured around four priorities:

Priority 1: rapidly reduce the use of the substances of most concern for health and the environment, in line with the recommendations of the inter-inspection report at the end of 2017;

Priority # 2: to better understand the impacts to better inform and protect the public and professionals and preserve the environment;

Priority n ° 3: to amplify the research and development of alternatives and the implementation of these solutions by farmers;

Priority 4: strengthen the Ecophyto 2 plan, improve its governance and operation.
To ensure the reduction of the use of plant protection products, legislative and financial levers will be mobilized: the draft law resulting from the EGAs, currently under discussion in the National Assembly, thus includes provisions relating to the separation of sales and marketing. advice on plant protection products. The major investment plan will be partly mobilized to support the transformation of production systems, the construction and dissemination of alternatives to plant protection products.

In addition, the tax for diffuse pollution will be modernized and gradually reinforced. It will be further modulated to better take into account the dangerous nature of products; its receipts will help finance the support of farmers, in the framework of the Ecophyto plan and the conversion to organic farming (around € 50 million from 2019).

Legislative measures will also be taken to reduce the risks to residents of agricultural areas related to the use of products near residential areas. Inserm, Inra, Ineris and ANSES will be responsible for several areas of expertise to better understand the effects of pesticides on human health or ecosystems. To better protect biodiversity, including pollinators, the regulatory framework will be evaluated within 6 months.

At the same time, research will be strengthened to offer farmers a range of alternative methods, including increased support for biocontrol products. Enhanced support for farmers' collectives will allow the dissemination of these practices and a sustainable transition towards a less dependent agriculture of plant protection products.

The rapid establishment of several working groups was announced on the actions of the plan requiring complementary consultations, such as the accompaniment of farmers or the provision of alternative crop protection products (biocontrol, natural preparations little concern).

Finally, the Government has adopted a clear line at the European level by systematically opposing the extension or renewal of substances that fulfill exclusion criteria at European level and by advancing with the Commission and the Member States towards a reform of the European agencies with including the creation of a mechanism to fund independent studies and greater transparency.
Nicolas Hulot, Minister of State and Minister for the Ecological and Solidarity Transition, praised "the work and responsibility of all those who have enabled the Government to put an unprecedented plan of action on the table today. Everyone is in a process of progress, these measures will be implemented very quickly and will enable us both to achieve our phytosanitary reduction objectives and to build alternatives, in particular to the use of glyphosate. ".

Agnès Buzyn, Minister of Solidarities and Health, said: "We need to improve our knowledge of the impacts of pesticides on our health and our environment, in order to protect our fellow citizens. That is why I will make sure that the stakeholders as a whole can contribute to the implementation of the actions of the roadmap: these issues are everyone's business ".

Frédérique Vidal, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation emphasized that "this action plan illustrates the Government's commitment to an ambitious change in our agricultural practices. To achieve this, I hope that all the actors of research will be mobilized, to place the scientific rigor at the heart of the process of elaboration and decision-making, at the national level as well as at the European and international level ".

Stéphane Travert, Minister of Agriculture and Food, recalled the Government's desire to "create a new dynamic and give a decisive boost to an agricultural model combining economic, social, environmental and health performance that will strengthen consumer confidence in their food and in an agriculture respectful of the environment ".

Nicolas Hulot, Agnès Buzyn, Stéphane Travert and Frédérique Vidal have reaffirmed together that the success of this action plan, expected by our fellow citizens, implies a real commitment from all stakeholders gathered on 25 April. Like the work done at the end of the States General of Food in the plans of sector, the actors in particular professionals are thus invited to engage on results at the height of the stakes.

Öko-Test: Dangerous pesticides in strawberries from Aldi, Edeka, Rewe & Co.

April 29, 2018 by Victoria Scherff Categories: Nutrition

Öko-Test has examined strawberries and comes to a sobering result. There is a lot to criticize about the strawberries from Edeka, Aldi, Rewe and other supermarkets.
How charged are the first strawberries that are currently on sale? Only three out of 30 strawberry samples from ten supermarkets and discounters are completely pesticide-free. This is the result of a new study in the journal Öko-Test. In all other strawberries there are up to six different injection pens.

Strawberries from Edeka, Rewe, Aldi, Lidl & Co.
Öko-Test examined strawberries from Aldi (North and South), Kaufland, Lidl, Netto, Norma, Penny, Real, Edeka and Rewe. For the test, one lab per product has analyzed three different samples of strawberries on more than 500 different pesticides. Öko-Test also assessed whether the strawberries come from an extremely dry region.
Half of the strawberries examined contain particularly questionable pesticides: they are suspected of being carcinogenic or harmful to reproduction. These include the pesticide Bupirimat, whose use according to the eco-test in Germany is not allowed. Why is there such strawberries to buy in Germany at all? The problem: The strawberries come from Spain, where the pesticide is allowed - therefore, foods with bupirimate residues may also be sold here in Germany. That's the EU law.

Eco-test finds high pesticide load
Most heavily polluted: A sample of strawberries from Rewe. In it, the lab found "elevated" residues from five different pesticides, totaling more than four milligrams per kilogram.
But there is a positive development: The general pesticide load in the current strawberry test is significantly lower than at the last strawberry eco-test. Some samples could not have been sold at that time.

Imported strawberries: immense water consumption
Strawberries are delicious and sell well, but our constant appetite for strawberries has fatal consequences for exporting countries: Strawberries need plenty of water to become bulging, tall and juicy, which is a significant problem especially in southern growing countries such as Spain and Morocco.
The strawberries examined by Öko-Test were almost all from the province of Huelva in Andalusia, near the National Park Coto de Doñana. This National Park slowly dries up by the strawberry cultivation. Water for fruit and vegetable cultivation in southern Spain.

When does the local strawberry season begin?
Utopia advises: The current study by Öko-Test shows that conventional strawberries from supermarkets and discounters are not recommended. Better wait for the local organic strawberries and do not buy water-intensive, imported strawberries. Regional and seasonal strawberries also taste more intense.

Öko-Test issue May 2018 (Cover: © Öko-Test)
When the local strawberry season starts, as always depends on the weather. May is a mild March and April ahead, it may be that in may already harvest the first strawberries. In general, the main season of the strawberries starts in June and lasts only about six weeks, ie until mid-July. Everything that is offered sooner or later probably comes from abroad or the heated greenhouse. All information about local fruits and vegetables can be found in our seasonal calendar.
The exact test results and detailed background information on water scarcity in southern Spain can be found in the current May issue of Öko-Test.

English vine plantings to rise by up to 70% this year
By Rob Brown

Published: 27 April, 2018
Sales of English wine jumped by almost a third (31%) between 2015 and last year, according to a new survey of the country’s winemakers.

Production will soar again this year, with the estimated 1 million vines planted across 6,200 acres in 2017 expected to rise by up to 70%.

The Wine Intelligence survey of 168 English producers for WineGB, which was revealed at the combined trade body’s first tasting yesterday in London, put last year’s production at 5.9 million bottles.

Sixty eight per cent of these were sparkling, the survey found. Champagne varietals Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier are the most popular grapes, accounting for 71% of all vines. Pinot Noir leads in terms of acreage. Chardonnay yields the highest tonnage.

“This is significant growth in an industry that has seen a considerable period of expansion over the last two decades,” said WineGB chairman Simon Robinson.

“The arrival of two major Champagne houses – Tattinger in Kent and Pommery in Hampshire – sets the tone for further expansion as new entrants from abroad are likely to enter the market in the coming decade,” he added.

WineGB also made bold estimates for the future growth of the English wine sector, claiming that production could grow to 40 million bottles with a retail value of £1 billion a year by 2040. The sector’s estimated 2,100 strong work force could grow to 30,000 over that time.

These estimates were based on the growth of the Oregon wine industry, which was of a similar size to England’s back in 1992. As in England, production in Oregon is controlled by a large number of smaller players, predominantly growing sparkling varietals to produce wines prized for their quality.

“We’ve carefully analysed how other New World regions have evolved and used direct comparisons with their growth to provide a framework of how the Great British success story might expand by 2040,” said Robinson.

“The figures we present are not set in stone, but provide… a vision of an exciting and vibrant industry that has enormous potential to become an internationally acclaimed wine growing country of the highest quality.”

Neonicotinoids may alter estrogen production in humans

Neonicotinoids are currently the most widely used pesticides in the world and frequently make headlines because of their harmful effects on honeybees and other insect pollinators. Now, a study indicates they may also have an impact on human health by disrupting our hormonal systems. This study indicates that more work must be done on the potential endocrine-disrupting effects of neonicotinoids.

The results of the study show an increase in aromatase expression and a unique change in the pattern in which aromatase was expressed, which is similar to that observed in the development of certain breast cancers. "However, as these results were obtained in a cellular model of breast cancer, we cannot necessarily conclude that exposure to pesticides at concentrations similar to those in the human environment would cause or promote cancer," cautions Professor Sanderson. This study is the first evidence that neonicotinoids have an effect on aromatase gene expression and may potentially alter estrogen production. Hormonal disturbance by these pesticides will need to be confirmed in future studies, but the results obtained by the INRS team indicate that it caution should be exercised in the management and use of neonicotinoid insecticides.

Investing,

Farmers, the stewards of the land have the choice to follow the model of their fellow stewards of the Sea and fish sustainably or overfish themselves out of existence.

If Farmers think they have a choice they are deluding themselves as their legacy methods poison the land and those they intend to 'feed'.

Eastman 1st quarter results.

Outlook

Commenting on the outlook for full-year 2018, Costa said: "Our compelling performance in the first quarter gives us increasing confidence in our growth expectations for the year. Our innovation-driven growth model continues to deliver results, driving impressive growth in our specialty businesses. In addition, the use of our strong free cash flow along with a modestly lower tax rate is contributing to earnings growth. We continue to work hard to offset volatility in raw material and energy prices, particularly olefins. Taking all of this together, we are increasing our expectations for adjusted 2018 EPS growth to be between 10-14 percent."

The full-year 2018 projected earnings exclude any non-core, unusual, or non-recurring items in the remaining nine months of 2018, and assumes that the adjusted tax rate detailed in Tables 4A and 4B for first quarter 2018 will be the actual rate for full-year 2018. Our 2018 financial results forecasts do not include non-core items (such as mark-to-market pension and other postretirement benefit gain or loss) or any unusual or non-recurring items, and we accordingly are unable to reconcile projected full-year 2018 earnings excluding non-core and any unusual or non-recurring items to projected GAAP earnings without unreasonable efforts.

Super,

I assume this to be a good opportunity for Eden and their professional help to capitalise on this announcement and further vocalise the developments of a British company in delivering natural solutions to compete against traditional pesticides, herbicides and insecticides.

Furthermore, this is probably, hopefully, just an initial step by the EU on a larger scale attack against harmful chemical products that would naturally lead companies to either/and 1) Escalate their R and D 2) Seek out alliances with companies who are further advanced in non-chemical deliverables 3) Buy companies that offer 2)
