Is that capital appreciation of the net assets or the share price ? does the share price really matter if earnings of 1.95p per share exceed the dividends of 1.4p per share?

There is a element of your capital being returned in the high income, they need their stakes in the businesses to grow to offset this.

Quite correct, we don't need to worry about capital appreciation when they pay us a 9% dividend every quarter on the dot..

I am happy with my purchase earlier this year and intend to hold and collect the dividends.

Should you care if a stable and rising dividend is primary to your approach? Just buy more when chance arises.

They keep on churning out good results just a shame that the market is uninterested.

Am new to DUKE but suggest that a (dilatative) placing is now a lot less likely in the next few years because it appears to have been cunningly built into the new credit facility - in the form of 41.6m warrants issued to Fairfax with an exercise price 45p in 4+ years time. (See annual report for details).

I view DUKE as an income stock and a partial hedge against interest rates going up at lot higher than currently expected. That's because by keeping the rate they charge unchanged, there is room to increase it and still remain an attractive offering relative to debt. In the meantime, they seem to be attracting a lot of customer interest.

@clive 7878: The CEO is on record (annual report) as saying the dividend is well covered: "I can reassure shareholders that the dividend remains well covered by recurring free cash flow." Free cash flow per share was 3.3p at 31.3.23 (or 3.27p recurring free cash flow) vs dps of 2.8p - however their definition of free cash flow includes cash arising from the sale of equity investments. More prosaically, a company does not increase its divvy by 24% unless it is pretty sure it can cover it going forward.

Companies that are known to periodically make placings are less likely to see substantial capital appreciation - This was the case with Phoenix Group.

Speculative question here; does anyone realistically see DUKE as a £500M company?

Full disclosure I hold just over 85,000 DUKE.

Well I suppose the more options that vest, then the more the BOD are aligned with us to seek increases in the share price 10M @ 0p = £0 !

No error. This has happened before (maybe we discussed it back then?). Left with the conclusion that not all deals are RNS'd because incremental changes are deemed too small to qualify for an RNS

Future pe of 9 with a 8% divi to support the share price.
But will the share price get back up to the dizzy heights of 45p per share?
The write up in the IC last week was encouraging,
but then so have others that have not moved the share price upwards.

I would have thought - rightly or wrongly - that DUKE was an interest stock -
8% yield on a pe of 8.

Although the downside is that it has not been above 45p in the last 2 years, but could this change.
and SimplyWall says that the dividend is not well covered and growth is said to be only 2% per year.

A number of tips in the IC of late have not been productive - take AEWU,
that is just one of many of late. There is often info missing about the companies.
But the share price has been 45p

Me too Z. Got my money back plus a bit. Some of the underlying companies results do not look great going into a recession. I hope that for LTH Duke continues to progress but I have enough investments elsewhere to keep me on my toes.
