02/2/2017 17:59 | Another all time high close. Excellent short term gain but this is exactly the type of Company that I shall hold for the longer term and buy on any weakness within the trend parameters. | churchtower
26/1/2017 10:15 | Yep, me too :-) | dr_smith
26/1/2017 08:35 | Dr Smith, Yes SMDS seem to carry on pretty much regardless of trends elsewhere though helped by recent currency fluctuations. I like the fact that the management seem to be well in control and on top of the situation with good increasing revenues on a number of fronts. Diversifying their offering is also reassuring, as it spreads the risk. One feels happy to just sit on the stock and wait for the steady share price increase to roll on while other stocks jump up and down. | greek islander
26/1/2017 06:50 | GI. That's my style too. I believe the market is driven share price wise by day traders and short termers. I too go with co's with good management track record. Slow and steady is boring, but as a PI, usually looking to the longer term I am happy with that. I don't currently hold SMDS, but have from time to time and they are on my short list. | dr_smith
26/1/2017 00:10 | From just under 250p to just under 450p in 3 years or so. Smiths just keeps rising steadily. Glad I have hung on to it for 4-5 years now. I have been reassessing my shareholdings recently and I have come to the conclusion that persisting with good management over a long period pays off. It is not my fastest riser in my portfolio (thank you Fevertree and recently Cap X) but it is probably the most steady and consistent. I have another stock (Volvere) very different type of company but one that steadily rises in a similar manner, very rarely retreating at all. Just hope the current market strength continues though the oncoming closeness of Brexit is one hell of an unknown threat. | greek islander
25/1/2017 10:24 | Looking good - as the saying goes "the longer the consolidation the bigger the move" and we have had a pretty long consolidation period here | davr0s

18/1/2017 09:40 | Some of the best movements often occur when a share price successfully tests a breakout upon a return to that level and again resumes the upward trend. Hopefully this is what we are witnessing here with a new support level being established. CH | churchtower
17/1/2017 15:14 | Would appear that the share price has returned to test the breakout point and is beginning to move ahead again. CH. | churchtower
13/1/2017 16:18 | Nice breakout for sure | eddyeagle1979
13/1/2017 08:35 | The breakout yesterday on high volume gives a strong platform for further advances. CH. | churchtower
12/1/2017 13:59 | Looking likely now. Great year ahead for these methinks. | spoole5
12/1/2017 10:53 | Having gone through the breakout level earlier this morning it appears to be retesting this breakout point. It it closes above 427 today this will be very encouraging. CH. | churchtower
12/1/2017 08:18 | After years of moving sideways looks like a new uptrend has been established. | spoole5
05/1/2017 10:09 | Threatening to break out as indicated in posting 2134 above. | churchtower
09/12/2016 11:28 | Bullish outlook by Management in presentation yesterday. Weekly Chart shows rising trendline support tested four times since early 2015 and a flat top around 420/425. A breakout is now a distinct possibility which could take the share price to 520 on a medium term view. Interim dividend increased by 15% with a present yield of 3.05%. | churchtower
09/12/2016 10:34 | Barclays 'overweight' tp 508p up from 465p Beaufort 'buy' no tp | philanderer |
