03/7/2013 08:59 | sounds good to me Pizza delivery firm Domino's Pizza said strong momentum continued into the second quarter with sales rising by 11.7 per cent from strong comparatives a year earlier. Sales rose to £147.6m in the 13 weeks to June 30th 2013 from £132.2m a year before while like-for-like (LFL) sales climbed 6.1%, compared to a 8.1% gain in 2012. "These results are particularly pleasing as they come on top of very strong comparatives from last year, highlighting the underlying strength of the core UK business," the group said in a statement. E-commerce, which now accounts for 63.3% of total sales is expected to take a bigger slice of revenue as the group develops its in-house web and digital marketing and launches the latest version of the website in the second half. System sales in the Republic of Ireland rose 5.1% to 12.1m, as LFL sales growth continues, "leading to growing confidence that this market is now heading into clearer waters," it said. LFL sales for the second quarter were up 4.9% from 2.5% in 2012. In Switzerland, LFL sales rose by 6.2% in the quarter and 7.8% for the first half of the year. Meanwhile its German business generated system sales of 2.4m up from 0.7m a year before and LFL sales in the six stores that are now mature, were up 11.1% for the quarter and are 23.8% higher for the first half. Chief Executive Officer Lance Batchelor commented: "I am very pleased with the overall results for the first half - particularly with regards to the UK and Ireland like-for-like sales. Our system leads the leisure sector and, with the majority of our business coming via web and mobile platforms, we are now truly an online retailer." "We know the best way to get great results from stores is to put them in the hands of franchisees - and with five world-class franchisees now operating stores in the German market and more arriving shortly, we are excited about the future in this fledgling territory." | mj19
03/7/2013 08:25 | A little puzzled by the share price drop today after what seems to be an upbeat pre-close update. There is the item about expected German losses being higher than expected but this seems to be adequately covered by better than expected UK and Ireland figures. So....... what do people think on this? | huttonr

04/6/2013 11:36 | Domino's 'DomiCopter': Pizza by drone It seems like just the other day I wrote an article about Dominos manipulating movie watchers into buying pizza with their movies. A company in London called "T+Biscuits" (brilliant name if you ask me) has created a drone helicopter that can deliver pizzas. Although its initial flight and delivery was a complete success, en masse deliveries are still far from present flight. The only bad side I see in this is delivery people losing their jobs to drones. But at least drones won't bother you for a tip. Read more at http://nerdreactor.c | philanderer

11/5/2013 23:24 | Hunting for Buffett-esque stocks in UK and European markets At Stockopedia we currently track three different Warren Buffett inspired stock screening models based on hunting for stocks with the kind of financial profile we've been discussing. Each of these strategies has outperformed the FTSE 100 to varying degrees since 2011. Among them, the Buffett-esque Sustainable Growth Screen has produced a 21 per cent annualised return since 2011, and currently counts some famous brands and services amongst currently qualifying candidate stocks including Burberry, biotech company Abcam, Domino's Pizza and engineering group Kentz.
