15/2/2024 07:38 | A clever way to get their hands on a lot of shares and avoid paying the dividend on them and avoid driving up the share price in an otherwise thin market. We get to avoid US tax deduction but on the downside don't know what the share price will be on 20-27 March. Rusty throws another curve ball. | ![]() grahamg8
15/2/2024 07:33 | That looks like a good idea. The more buybacks there are at the current share price the better. Shorting is likely to have been only a very small part of the share price fall. There is no evidence for vast amounts of shares having been shorted. Shorting means finding a large shareholder willing to lend shares (for a fee) and then selling them in the market in the hope of buying them back cheaper. | ![]() this_is_me
15/2/2024 07:26 | [edited], interesting new dividend payment option at 105% cost, so the company will use the dividend payout cash to buyback more shares.. | laurence llewelyn binliner

15/2/2024 06:25 | A quick thought. Watching analysis of DEC's previous full year accounts they bizarrely included notional losses which weren't really losses at all..e.g. due to difference between market price and their hedged price. Presumably now that hedging is delivering significantly higher profits than the HH price, DEC will swing back to major profit but use those tax losses? | ![]() leoneobull

14/2/2024 20:45 | Jftm Much as I'd like it to be true I can't see a read across. I don't understand the intracacies of shorting but it seems to me, a long term holder of Dec that we've been shafted by them and they've won. I'm down 50%. Carefully and profitably using resources to drain them sustainably isn't good enough | ![]() mindthestash

14/2/2024 19:20 | Hi bdbd11, interestingly Henry Hub gas futures were only recently discussed here and although low at the moment DEC has substantial hedging going forwards to protect cash flows after which the futures prices are looking progressively stronger. Also Rusty has mentioned previously that DEC receive a premium to the HH price (for production which is not hedged). I don't recall who posted the link to the HH gas futures but I noted it at the time and have now added a link at the end of the header for future reference. Unfortunately I couldn't find a YouTube video on it. :) | ![]() bountyhunter
14/2/2024 19:17 | NLG prices are up above the their hedges and they dont hedge as much an NG,so thats a plus. | ![]() blue square
14/2/2024 19:05 | I've read hundreds of posts on here for the bull case and bear case. Just ignore all and look at the Natural Gas price chart and you have your answer. It's (in real terms) never been lower. So obviously DEC will be where it is (forget forward contracts and hedges, the share price won't care). I am a small holder and will buy more on weakness, but until the Natural Gas price turns northwards, expect more pain. | ![]() bdbd11
