Digital Barriers launches world’s first live facial recognition from body-worn cameras

17 July 2017

Digital Barriers plc (AIM: DGB), has today announced SmartVis Identifier, the world's first live facial recognition system for body worn law enforcement cameras. The integration of the company’s world-class EdgeVis and SmartVis technologies provides defence, security and law enforcement agencies with real-time facial recognition against multiple watch lists and databases.

The SmartVis facial recognition technology is already available for standard smartphones and has now been adapted to run live on the company’s body worn cameras designed for frontline law enforcement. Combined with EdgeVis – the world's most effective mobile live streaming solution, already in use with flagship agencies around the world – it makes streaming from body worn devices both operationally and financially viable.

“SmartVis facial recognition has been designed to do the job that traditional facial recognition systems cannot; to work in the real world, in real time,” commented Zak Doffman, Digital Barriers CEO. “Never before has frontline policing been offered live facial recognition on the type of everyday body worn cameras now being widely deployed. Customers at the forefront of security and defence have already deployed this technology and describe it as a “game changer”.

Until now, body worn devices have been largely limited to record-only, making them useful for evidence management after the fact but doing nothing to promote officer safety. Digital Barriers' solution is different as EdgeVis delivers low latency and low bandwidth streaming, including over-the-air access to device recordings and GPS locational data. Now, the addition of live facial recognition to the solution means that for the first time every interaction, every stop and search, every arrest, can be supported when required by real-time facial recognition.

SmartVis Face provides a major leap forward for the capability and practicality of facial recognition within day-to-day policing. The system has been designed to meet the frontline operational requirements of defence, security and law enforcement agencies, as well as the broader security industry. By removing human error from the equation and plugging resourcing gaps, it enables organisations to significantly widen their deployments of facial recognition to enhance security and public safety, with identities confirmed and persons of interest highlighted in real time.

In addition to being available alongside EdgeVis on Digital Barriers' body worn devices, SmartVis Identifier will also be made available to selected service providers and camera and device manufacturers under license

Thanks for that although I'm not ready to buy in here in spite of the good publicity, which no doubt will help any fundraising which I'm sure will come. I may be wrong but my reasons for being bearish are not anything to do with the technology IP but with the inability of the management to make any money. The balance sheet is terrible with most assets being intangibles, the cash flow is terrible with £3M at the interims and only credit from one of their major shareholders is keeping them afloat imho. A fundraising, should it happen, will probably be at a discount and will be very dilutive to PI's.

Definitely a market for their products, but any investment at the moment is just a punt that might pay off but probably wont IMHO. My punt money went in the tech bubble of 1999-2000, still waiting. Barring a material change in the business, still watching from the sidelines.

DGB highlighted as one of the leading companies in security screening market:

Security Screening Market - Strongly Supported By The Development In ICT Sector

Security Screening Market is driven by growing need for security measures at public places, security screening market has witnessed high growth after the disastrous terror attacks in US and India, security screening market is strongly supported by development in ICT sector

Security screening is one of the most important concerns for security at public places such as airports, railway stations and others. It is typically used to detect unlawful objects including metal objects, weapons, liquor products and others. Screening includes scanning of people and their luggage to detect any hazardous objects. Security screening is majorly carried at places such as airports, government offices and border terminal points. Biometric systems are the most popular techniques used for screening people as it is the most reliable process for authentication. Screening systems based on biometrics method include voice scanner, face scanner, retina scanner, iris scanner and fingerprint scanner. Luggage and other belongings of the people are often screened using x-ray scanning machines to check for any prohibited objects in the baggage.

The BBC say in was in the foyer, after leaving the station and before you got to the security screening.

I guess there's no reason why handheld devices couldn't be used there tho.

No question of that, busters, it just depends whether the bomb was detonated outside whatever they deemed to be 'entry points', which seems possible in this case.

AISHAH. nice to see a positive comment for once - I gave up back in 2014 (sp action since has proved me right) but possibly need to take another look. However Simply Wall street is very much (imo) a Tip Sheet and all necessary cautions needed.

Edited - Recent holding announcement
3. Full name of person(s) SFM UK Management LLP, SFM
subject to the notification UK Holdings Limited, Soros
obligation: (iii) Fund Management LLC

They have reduced their holding from 8,945,686 to 8,121,686 4.91% and Soros is a wise old bird.

Good to see more coverage of their tech.

Conclusion:

"As stated before, nowhere can I find ThruVis competition. I have no doubt soft target solutions will be the next wave in global homeland security investment. EdgeVis Shield is in a more crowded market, but based on their tested installments in Afghanistan and elsewhere and current pilot program with DHS in Arizona, they seem primed to take advantage of the large pie that Donald Trump wants to hand out to secure the southern US border and perhaps elsewhere in the world.

Any win from that effort could very quickly lead to explosive revenue growth for this company. I see Digital Barriers as a very inexpensive and under the radar investment that could see big growth in the next few years."
