robot,

Don't miss this one, all Debenhams unsold Easter eggs from all of its stores been taken to their Blackpool store today and being given away free.

Apparently management are using the event today to see how many eggstra customers show up and consider whether giving away free products will encourage more people to shop at Debenhams.

edit:

Just seen the advert on ITV it shows Butcher eating one of their premium eggs and saying their competitors will have egg on their faces when they see what Debenhams are up to. What they are apparently trying to do is force their competition to do the same with all their other products for a special event sale, then hopefully the competition goes to the wall first.

Its a risky trial but if Debenhams pull it off they may be the only retailer left on the High Street.

Another expensive store...Homebase...

The Australian owner of Homebase has begun approaching potential buyers of the DIY chain just two years after completing a disastrous £340m takeover.
Sky News ‎has learnt that Wesfarmers is working with investment bankers at Lazard to review options for the future of Homebase, with the most likely outcome an outright sale of the business.

Easter Washout will decimate sales at retailers and shoppers stay home in the warm and turn up the heat.

Retail stores will have to slash Easter/Summer clothes prices otherwise they will have far too much overhang of stock.

The company outlook statement will not look at all well.

robot,

What a load of baloney you are talking.

The UK is suffering one of the worst Easter breaks on record, if it isn't raining its cold.

This weekend going to be a washout and I foresee a lot of profit warnings from the retail sector after Easter.

I hope you haven't put too much money in Debenhams otherwise you may have to do a lot more bike riding in future and less travel by car.

If the public have any sense they will stay at home in the warm.

I ALSO expect the DIY stores to suffer badly this Easter, the miserable weather will keep them away from thinking of anything garden related.

Debenhams will have been hoping to claw back some sales this Easter, this is not what they would have wanted when they report their interims in April and it wont give them a good outlook statement when they report.

They have an idea how each scenario is going to turn out but they are in a rock and hard place at the moment.

The relaxing of credit, and low interest rates has managed to increase GDP but they are now worried about the rising debt burden on households.

Topvest I can't believe the gov't haven't seen this coming. White van use has gone through the roof and they wonder why shops are struggling. It is blatantly obvious this change is coming yet they have done no planning for it.

I think they need to look at commercial leases, which are very much in favour of the landlord. Then there is the business rates, which can no longer be justified. No idea why they have to wait for swathes of retailers and restaurants to go bust before they act.

My local town shops didn't seem at all busy, in fact my local Marks % Spencer quiet mid afternoon both in fashion and food hall.

The weather hasn't helped but I still think shoppers are getting strapped for cash as debt increases.

Low interest rates have encouraged too much borrowing and its too late now in any event.

It’s looking pretty bad for Debenhams. I walked around one today actually and they are so so dull. There is nothing vaguely interesting. Nearly as bad as House of Fraser, which is like walking around a morgue. In House of Fraser they won’t even open the changing rooms unless you ask, to reduce theft. Well they are open for business then! They are both living on borrowed time I’m afraid. The big question is what happens when they get into difficulty and who, if anyone, steps forward. We certainly don’t want to see all these stores empty. Something needs to happen to reinvigorate the UK high street before it’s too late and we wander over the tipping point. That tipping point is getting closer and Government policy action is needed.

Forget it robot I am not in to "kiss me quick hats"!

Half the kids in Blackpool have false teeth by the time they leave school due to eating all that Blackpool rock.

Not a good place for Asthma sufferers the smog due to smoking is worse than Beijing.

Not that I suffer from Asthma, but I don't like the smell of fish and chips where ever I walk.

Do they still have the children's monkey on the prom, the owner asking if your kid wants a snap, then it pees all over your kids clothes?

Or those grossly fat posters where people put there heads through to make them look gross?

I suppose the large posters outdated now as most people are fat in any event eating all that greasy food on the front.

What I could do with is a bucket of horse manure for my garden but don't those horses on the front have nappies now?

robor,

If things turn around you could move further south to Lytham where some of the sports people live, if it turns pear shaped which I expect you may end up bang in the middle of Blackpool begging on the streets.

Yes I do know Blackpool I remember when they used to feed the mill towns in by train when the mills closed for the summer break and they did so with the Scots as well. Those were the days when Blackpool was one of the premier shopping centres!

"but those were the days my friend we thought would never end"!

The "carnival" is over, so to say in a cryptic manner!

What I don't know isn't worth knowing!

debsdowner ,

The way Russia is talking recently we may all be doomed in the uk , so a tremor is the least of our worries would you not agree.
Get yourself here to Blackpool for some proper fun, stop worrying .

There are plenty of haunts and venues you might like in the town centre in the vicinity of the tower area especially .

Robot I like others am concerned you don't understand the situation here.

Debenhams don't have any assets. They hardly own any property and most of their fixed assets are fixtures and fittings, which have very little resale value.

The thing is that John Lewis M&S and House of Frasier are all struggling too. But the problem Debenhams has is they have no assets to use to weather the storm.

Mike Ashley is a savvy guy but has lost around £100m on his investment. If he thought Debenhams is a great investment he would be buying the company at this rock bottom price. But he hasn't.

He must therefore be thinking he can wait for it to go bust and buy it for pennies.

Just saying the risk must be very real you can't just assume all will be fine.

robot,

About the so called gas field under Blackpool, the area has already had one tremor due to fracking as you know, another tremor and Britain's population would be wiped out with a tsunami.

You need to get out of Blackpool and get out of Debenhams.
