Think Card factory may be more of a threat than internet !

interesting programme on radio 4 just now, apparently moonpig and other internet card sales only account for about 3.5% of total uk card sales. Maybe the internet is overhyped as far as clinton are concerned and last results are not a trend.

s34icknote - Shame you dont do any research or else you would know that Card Factory is highly profitible and doing fantastic opening one store a week.Cant really say that about Clintons.

Its ok being a shop snob but where one personally likes to shop isnt always representitive of the market.Card Factory is growing whereas Clintons is shrinking.

Moonpig is stealing the high value customer from Clintons. They are being attacked from allsides.

Think about it.

Card factory is the Lidl of cards.
CC is th M & S you take your picks !

Think most people like to brouse and the people receiving a card will know some one has spent there time looking over what they buy.
Will be interesting to see how things work out but my feeling is xmas will be just the same for CC but hopefully without the snow !!!

A good bet from here with a 12 8 month hold time !

All I ever see is Moonpig adverts on the telly.I suppose Clinton Cards cant afford to advertise their personalisation offer.

Card Factory and Moonpig seem to be blossoming at CC's expense.

This is likely to go down the drain, as it is as outdated as Wollies was.

I was hoping it would test 10p again! I'll stay on the sidelines for now and make a decision after their results. Sorry but I'm hoping there downbeat so I can get in - at what I consider - cheap

Look at the cash generation. Debt has dropped from ? £60m to next to nothing over just a couple of years. the shops may be awful, the cards pretty tatty, but this throws of cash. Still lots more work to be done on shutting old stores and revamping the ones they wish to keep, but still potential to be profitable. The main problem is that not many want this to do well: too much antagonism with a cetain figure. So institutions will not touch it. However, it was right to pick it up two years ago at 5p, and it turned into a ten-bagger. And at that time it had horrible, horrible debt, a real problem with birthdays and appeared to be bust. It was not, and certainly is not, and I am puzzled why it is trying to test 10p again. Medium risk, but huge upside.......imho ( though might read the results before buying more)

Go in the shop and look at the tatt they sell, do really think this shop has a chance under current management. Also the local supermarkets have better choice of cards and are cheaper.

These shops are always empty, to me thats a sign of bad news.

Clintons have interims out next week.

You are right it takes a small drop in revenues from where we are now to make them unprofitable, it also takes a small rise to make them very profitable. My gamble would be that christmas trading this year - when they take most of that revenue - will be better than last year. It's a gamble I know, but if - and it's a big if - I can get in at the 10-12p range I think the downside is limited.
