10/9/2015 18:52 | hxxp://jakartaglobe. Jakarta. Russia’s ambassador to Indonesia Mikhail Y. Galuzin brought an envoy to visit the House of Representatives in Jakarta on Thursday, meeting with leaders at the energy commission to discuss about possible collaborations in nuclear energy. The Russian envoy was greeted by deputy speaker Fahri Hamzah and Tamsil Linrung, deputy chairman of Commission VII, which overseas the energy sector. “Thank you to leaders of [the House] for this meeting. This is an honor for us to exchange thoughts. Today, we discuss opportunities for cooperation, especially in nuclear energy,” Galuzin said. Fahri, a politician from the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), said he believes that Indonesia can become an energy-independent nation with the help of nuclear energy. “As a leader at the House, I really support such a collaboration [with Russia],” he said. Tamsil used the meeting as an opportunity to explain Indonesia’s 35,000-Megawatt power plant development plan. “The 35,000-MW [plan] can be realized if it’s developed with nuclear energy, in line with what Russia proposed,” Fahri said. Should Indonesia tap into the nuclear sector for its energy needs, the country can stand on par with other developed nations like France, the United States and Russia, he added. “I think the government must keep an open mind with regards to the proposal and have a discussion with [Russian representatives], Members of Commission VII are scheduled to visit Russia on Sept. 27 to follow up on Russia's investment plans in Indonesia's mineral and coal sector, and to witness first-hand the operations of a Russian power plant. | mrshaungcm

09/9/2015 13:08 | Indonesia's Jokowi needs to talk less, do more Consistency, too, is critical. Along with narrowing the current-account deficit and shoring up the financial system, Jokowi should reverse policies endorsing protectionist laws against mining and technology companies. He should stop doling cash to inefficient state enterprises. He must increase regulatory certainty and stop talking out of both sides of his mouth on trade. Too often the message from the government has seemed to be, "We welcome foreign money, but only on our terms - - which, by the way, can change at any moment." -------------------- Just background reading really but this hit Bloomberg and Chigago Tribune today so has a wide readership so thought we might like to see it too. | debbiegee
