Re-tracing the fall from grace in early July - should be quickly north of three quid.

No time to be selling.

amazing. not a few weeks ago this was being trashed as bad job. Now, with a bit of puff in the markets, it's back on the shopping lists.

Is JT still in here?

I sold out of my long held holding a couple of months ago or so, along with lots of others - just couldn't allow the value of my holding and my gains to evaporate - as they were, very quickly. However took out a serious spread bet at 189p and further subsequent bets all the way up to £2 so sitting pretty and made the equivalent back, to what I would have earned if I had held on to the stock.

Considering a further long term equity purchase now. Ideally would see a small dip in the share price with some short termers taking profits.

There must be something substantive behind this rise, the trades volume doesn't suggest anything at present. Nice though.......

Lead is up 60% since its June nadir.

Apart from that, no idea...

As commented, the lead surcharge and the recycling facility should benefit from this. Not necessarily good for short term cash flow, though. But that is a temporary factor imo.

Any news announced here today to cause the rise?

lead surcharge on batteries now re-testing old highs. Only 2 months in the last 18 that the surcharge has been higher than Exide are now indicating for November sales, as of communique today.
On this continuing trend Shoto should do well, esp with the re-cycler coming into play, Gross Margin wise. It's the sales volume and product diversification that we await news on i feel

Don't tell me the investment community has FINALLY decided this is a good, well run company destined for further growth. Regardless, it's a very pleasant sight after so long in the doldrums.

Just a couple of anecdotes,

I have had 2 recent separate conversations with a Dutch tourist guide who works in China and an English girl who recently taught in Shanghai.

In the course of general conversation, with no mention of batteries, they both said that in some/many chinese cities only battery powered bikes and not petrol motor bikes are allowed in chinese city centres, presumably for environmental reasons.

i was also told last year that chinese battery bikes are now being sold in Kathmandu, Nepal

JTCod had an excellent post on the long term growth rate and what is never highlighted enough, with the exception of a few notables such as Mattjos is that this is a class act with patents growing and sadly suffering xenophobia. Slapdash refers to the fundamentals and on a global screening of stocks with such value and growth this is attractive!

Pro .. Get your facts right, idiot. I do not distribute their products as any regular readers of this thread will know. I have used them & I rate them highly.

Slap .. bull & bear case here as for every stock. On a short term basis i suspect it'll tread water sans news. FY results or mgmnt commentary on trading to determine how their usually stronger H2 performs is required. Doubt they will repeat what they achieved in H2 last year but eps of 40-50 for the FY likely.
Product diversification as well as geographical diversification important now

Mattjos has a very large CHNS holding and also distributes (or used to) some of their products.

Think you might not get a "non-biased non-rose tinted specs" reply.................

Mattjos - what is your view here???? Very positive or just cautious and why??? Key weakness from results was the negative cashflow of I think around £29m... also uncertainty about the group's markets...... increase in inventories is also a negative and may point to an inability to sell stuff or stock that will have to be written off...

Having said that current assets are about 50% higher than total liabilities and of these £30m is cash........... then as for asset backing there is about £31m of tangible assets...... so total equity comes in at £79m against the market cap of £45m..............

the strategy for selling overseas is ok but Yuan is probably going to appreciate which should make this increasinbly difficult....... the closure of factory capacity looks a bit weak given that the group had a placing a while back to expand... also I thought the group was immune to the Led price but in the results they complain about it...
