► Investment summary: Chesnara has three pillars for delivering value, but also
aims to be the “least troublesome source of sustainable, attractive dividend
yield”. A close analysis reveals that there is substance underlying this aim. In our
opinion, the discount to Economic Value looks wider than it should, and the
yield appears high for a dividend that is both secure and growing.

I'm not in the mood for buying anything at all at the moment, but if I could get these for under 280p I might be tempted.

Yes as many have commented here, there is a trading opportunity here between £2.80 and £3.20 to supplement the valuable income

That's encouraging to hear, given I currently hold both.

DIG's holding of CSN is valued at 16.7m, their 8th largest holding by valuation.

Just reading the annual report from DIG A large uk eq income trust ( and has recently improved performance) I notice that CSN was 8 th biggest holding and managers added during the year Pretty positive imho

Yes agreed, even an extreme move in either direction may induce a shock reaction but it will revert to the mean in time.

Of course extracting cash from run off policies is eating your own lunch so deals to maintain cash flows are important. That's what is particularly exciting about Chesnara right now. New chief exec and £200m bond issue. Some interesting months ahead

Makinbuks,

Generally neutral you mean.

That's the thing about Chesnara, it doesn't win or lose either way... just plods along with it's long term view and healthy dividend.

The only issue that might adversley affect Chesnara would be an extreme move in either direction.

Most of the time the status quo is preserved, so most of the time Chesnara is a comfortable, boring hold.

Part of the attraction here is that the state of the UK economy is largely irrelevant. The wider European economy can hurt the new business volume and increase cancelled policies but it wont affect the release of cash from the run off business. Higher interest rates mean higher investment income and lower liabilities so generally positive

I think the previous predicable trading range has changed and this is taking on a more generally upwards trajectory.

Not just because of today's movement but looking at the chart. Wouldn't be surprising to see 'higher lows' given the excellent yield and twice-yearly payouts.

Yes this stock presents an interesting income v cap appreciation dilemma and it is still above the rpi which is pretty unusual
