18/1/2022 14:26 | I've added to my position here. Really excellent yield (7.84%) and a good record of steady increases. And I like the signal given by the new appointment. | bluemango
17/1/2022 12:18 | Interested in all those companies that don't bother with a head of corporate strategy? Practically every company in my portfolio has one. I think it's very naive to claim that it's the CEO's job. On the other hand I do think it's futher evidence of them switching to a more aggresive growth strategy (Phoenix Group), but it's a perfectly normal appointment and probably overdue. | al101uk
17/1/2022 10:59 | I agree that should be the job of the CEO. Maybe he does'nt know how too? | p49b

17/1/2022 09:45 | Sounds like a very solid appointment to me... Chesnara plc ("Chesnara" or "the Group"), the UK and European life insurance consolidator, today announced the appointment of Sam Perowne as Head of Strategic Development & Investor Relations, with effect from 01 April 2022. In this new role, Sam will be a member of the Group Executive Committee, responsible for driving forward Chesnara's wider strategic development. This will include delivery of future acquisitions as well as supporting investor engagement, reflecting the Group's increased focus on one of its three strategic pillars - acquiring life and pensions businesses. Sam joins from Phoenix Group Holdings plc where he was most recently Head of Corporate Strategy and M&A. He brings over 20 years of experience in the life insurance sector across M&A, Equity and Debt Capital Markets, Investor Relations and Strategic Development. | cwa1
14/1/2022 10:13 | Yes. That is a strategy which often works. I have often used it with BATS, selling my trading shares just before ex d date and repurchasing afterwards. Curiously, I often end up repurchasing a few days after the dividend is paid, though the date of actual payment ought if anything to move the shares up, with holders reinvesting dividends. Perhaps some people don't know what 'ex div' means, and think they need to hold on the payment date to get the div! It didn't work this quarter, unfortunately. Though I sold my trading shares at a respectable profit shortly before ex div, the share price has just kept going up! Damned if you do, damned if you don't.... | 1knocker
13/1/2022 23:06 | 1knocker, Been doing the same thing with my trading shares and said as much in an earlier post. I've found the opposite for dividend day on quite a few occasions. When getting in at 270-280 and exiting just before ex-div at something over 300p has been more profitable. I have a core holding, some short term trading shares (playing the same game as you) and some longer term trading shares to sell if we see a proper breakout. Fully loaded at the moment. New CEO so movement in one direction or the other seems more likely than it has for a while, lets hope the excitement of more activity pushes us up. | al101uk
13/1/2022 22:29 | Don't hold your breath for a share price rise. For years these have been paying a high and increasing dividend, but no share price rise ever seems to hold. Whenever I have sold at over 300, I have been able to buy in again not long after at 280 or lower. The art, of course, is to be a holder on the ex div dates. Miss one of those, especially the big one, and one very much wishes one had left well alone .... | 1knocker

13/1/2022 16:11 | Interested. Are you guys saying there isn't a change in strategy or that you like the change? | al101uk
13/1/2022 14:35 | Thanks, CWA1. I listened to it and topped up a little. It all sounds so steady and assured. Barring a black swan event, an 8% yield at 280p that will grow with occasional small acquisitions. What are they doing down here? They should really be 400p. If they don't go there, I'll probably add some more. | aleman
13/1/2022 14:29 | Thanks for the Hardman link CWA - a really interesting talk that makes me want to add to my holding. An excellent yielding share with some growth likely. What are investors not seeing ? Listen to the Hardman interview it might galvanise a few more investors | rightnellie
13/1/2022 11:04 | Maybe they wanted to present a more aggressive image for the viewers than in reality. Not wanting to appear complacent, passive etc. It's the results & actions that matter, not the words. | bluemango
13/1/2022 10:51 | Yep, lots of talk about opportunities and changing the way they value acquisitions. Plenty to be concerned about, but only time will tell if it's a tweak (which could be a good thing) or something more worrying. That final "what you should expect from Chesnara" at the end of the interview would have only been answered one way in the past "more of the same".... in this interview it was answered with the word "activity"... sums it up. Should add I'm not throwing my toys out of the pram and not considering selling at the moment. | al101uk
13/1/2022 10:38 | I agree, wonder if he was considered for the role? The image Murray portrayed implies they were looking for something a little more flash | makinbuks
13/1/2022 10:24 | Some changes to strategy in there, sounds more aggressive to me... don't think they said "boring" once. Not sure I liked the idea of "strategic acquisitions", loved the description of a natural hedge between company value and surplus. Definitely felt more assured by David Rimmington than by our new CEO, Steve Murray. | al101uk |
