Sorry Geovest - I wasn't saying Lincoln were going to be bidding for CHTR, I meant CHTR next as in bid for by someone. M&A seems to be kicking around a bit more lately.

Nice rise today :-)

Headed for 1000 judging by the strength on the chart,
needs to get thru' this resistance area from late '06/early '07.

But WTFDIK?

CR, I think it is unlikely as there would be huge regulatory issues if Lincoln tries to buy Charter given their market share in the US.

Why the slide yaesterday, from 860 to 840?

I'm expecting dollar strength soon, so an improvement in earnings.

"The outlook for both businesses remains positive. Demand for welding and cutting
products is determined largely by worldwide consumption of steel, which is
expected to grow at around 5 per cent per year in the short to medium term.
Higher growth in demand from Brazil, Russia, India and China, and other emerging
economies is expected to more than offset any slowdown in North America and
Western Europe."

Very good figures but that doesn't matter in a bear market.

But industrial group Charter was the top midcap riser, up 85 at 868-1/2, continuing its rally from last week after Credit Suisse initiated the group with an 'outperform' stance and 1,050 pence target. Traders also highlighted a positive read-across from Q4 results Friday from US peer Lincoln Electric Holdings Inc.

Coiled spring or what? There must be some news out there to explain the surge but I cannot find it.

Don't forget, results are out on 13th March. I'd expect to see a little buying in the run-up (well, perhaps - depends on the state of the markets I suppose) and if the results are good, and more to the point the outlook statement is also good, then we should see a decent rise.
