08/2/2008 14:35 | Hi c3jns - I wouldn't worry too much - just hang onto them, and as the markets turn I'm sure your patience will be rewarded. Just look at the speed of the bounce the other day - intraday, the price was at 590p and just a few days later (about a week as I recall) we weren't far off 750p. Keep the faith ! 11/1/2008 12:28 | UK engineering group Charter PLC said it is confident it will deliver a strong performance for the year ending Dec 31, 2007 and expects to make further progress in 2008. The company said its markets remain robust and added that the positive trends in both of its businesses -- ESAB and Howden -- that were experienced during the first part of the year, were set to continue. ''Charter said following significant increases in revenue and operating profit reported at the interim period, ESAB -- its welding, cutting and automation division -- had continued to trade strongly in the second half of the year. The group said the division had seen especially strong growth in Western Europe and South America. Trading in the group's air and gas handling business -- Howden -- continues to be robust with the unit's second half sales growth expected to top the division's first half performance. As a consequence of the growth in sales to customers in North America and Europe, Howden's sales will be better balanced geographically between North America, Europe, China and the rest of the world than in 2006, Charter said. The company said it expects to recommend a final dividend for 2007 and is expecting to pay an interim and a final dividend each year thereafter.'' The share price is almost down another 5% today and its going down every day. I just cannot for the life of me understand why this should be happening. This is an excellent company that is trading well and about to recommence paying a divi. Pe now around 8 and falling, this is madness surely? Any thoughts anyone? | ![]() fozzie | |

03/1/2008 12:58 | I know it's always popular small talk to roll out the possibility of a bid when a stock has fallen this far but unashamedly,i think this stock could attract a predator. So could Keller for that matter. There's still money around for stocks like these.Short term tho',you risk catching a falling knife.I'm buying both on weakness having not held either for a good few months. PS It's worth looking at Lincoln Electric,CHTR's American cousin. The disparity in ratings and recent performance is noteworthy and supports theories that Charter is oversold.LECO on Nasdaq | ![]() steeplejack |
