Cracking set of results. Don't know why everyone's chasing the high risk stuff!

Great figs and none of us ever doubted it.Maybe not even the market protagonists who ratchet stocks up and down to create nervousness and thus business.Sometimes there's a strong case for trusting your analysis and just sitting tight.Wish i had.Now ,i suspect,we'll have top slicing recommendations from some quarters.Slowing growth forecasts....probably all horribly all erroneous.Hope to buy on any dips having sold out at 1145p.

Fantastic results. Well above expectations imo. Earnings for the whole year should be about 90p. Numis upped target price this morning to 1410.

Hope so rochdae : divi appeals to institutions especially in times of market uncertainty

Interims tomorrow. Should see more solid growth and a return to the divi must be on the cards.

Panmure Gordon:

"LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Shares in Charter PLC pushed higher in early
deals, with Panmure Gordon upgrading its stance on the company to 'buy' from
'hold', raising its target price to 1,235 pence from 1,030, and increasing its
estimates, according to traders.
At 8.46 am, Charter shares were 35 pence firmer at 1,093, with the FTSE 250
index up 104.6 points at 11,204.1.
In a note to clients, Panmure pointed out that Charter's shares have
retreated 15 pct ahead of potentially strong interims on September 12, and are
back to levels when it raised guidance in mid-June.
It said based on strong trading conditions and some improved visibility for
2008, it is raising its estimates by 3 pct and 6 pct for 2007 and 2008
respectively."

AND

"Vague bid talk also helped Charter, the engineer, to jump 55p to £11.15. Its fellow aerospace engineers rose, Meggit 15¾p to 318¼p and Cobham 8¾p to 201p. Oliver Wynne-James, a Panmure Gordon analyst, raised Charter from "hold" to "buy", noting: "Private equity would consider this low-hanging fruit and the pension fund liability of £640 millon should be of interest to pension fund-strippers."

But what is a "pension fund-stripper" and if there is a deficit how would they make money out of that??

And who knows anything about the "pension fund liability of £640 millon"??

PS (Edit)
According to the 2006 Annual Report the Net deficit on the pension fund is £105.7M down from £151.6M the year before:

Total plan assets £557.5M
Defined benefit obligations £663.2M
Deficit £105.7M

Suspect upgrade today from Panmure Gordon to 'buy' with a price target of 1235 probably helped.

LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Goldman Sachs has upgraded Charter PLC to 'buy'
from 'neutral', and added the stock to its pan-Europe Buy List, as part of a
review of the mid-cap capital goods sector, according to dealers.
In a note to clients, Goldman Sachs said it is raising estimates on a number
of mid-cap capital goods stocks ahead of the first-half reporting season, to
reflect continuing robust demand and a strong pricing environment.
Goldman Sachs said its revised 2008 EBIT estimate for Charter is about 8 pct
above consensus average, and following the upgrade to estimates, the broker
lifted its target price on Charter to 1,400 pence from 1,260.

Anyone: does this statement still apply.

Oh dear, bought yet more all the way down! During the day it dropped as low as 1025p and that was not in my business plan. Still, FTSE100 is down 10% since mid June so overall should not complain ... talking to myself as usual

Cripes!! Down almost 125p to 1090p (touched 1215p yesterday - I know that because I sold 5,000 at 1209p) but now a little bounce. Bought back all I sold yesterday, all the way to 1101p ... now, where did I put that crystal ball?

Cracking share. One of my all time favourites. It's just kept on rising steadily ever since I first bought it. Felt a bit uneasy when it cut the 200dma and broke its uptrend in March but it soon broke decisively back through. Certainly glad I held !!!

As I have stated this is my biggest holding by miles so up 70p so far today at 1210p is incredible. Have sold quite few on the way but plenty left ...
