Just in case you missed it:

28/06/2007 @ 10:05
LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Shares in Charter PLC were higher in morning
trading, with Panmure Gordon raising its price target to 1,258 pence from 1,132
and reiterating its 'buy' stance after Charter's AGM statement on Tuesday.
At 9.52 am, shares in Charter were up 35 at 1,055, while the FTSE 250 index
was 109.6 points firmer at 11,501.
In a note this morning, Panmure Gordon said it believes Charter has enjoyed
positive trading conditions across both its divisions, resulting in turnover and
EBIT margin growth in the first five months of the year.
The broker believes that Charter appears to be in good shape and the outlook
for the group is encouraging.

26/07/2007
LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Goldman Sachs has upgraded Charter PLC to 'buy'
from 'neutral', and added the stock to its pan-Europe Buy List, as part of a
review of the mid-cap capital goods sector, according to dealers.
In a note to clients, Goldman Sachs said it is raising estimates on a number
of mid-cap capital goods stocks ahead of the first-half reporting season, to
reflect continuing robust demand and a strong pricing environment.
Goldman Sachs said its revised 2008 EBIT estimate for Charter is about 8 pct
above consensus average, and following the upgrade to estimates, the broker
lifted its target price on Charter to 1,400 pence from 1,260.

Another high on Friday... after a static year as far as share price goes, this is building up nicely for people who had the patience to wait. I'm wondering where the next good news is going to come from because I would love to see the brokers forecasts come true.

Only just read your post : thanks for that. I too use them MACD and RSI, principally as 'confirmation' signals for entry and exit.

>>>>Bluebelle....New to this stock since early April when a new share price high prompted my buy, and just been reading your thread 1849 on this BB. Am also a favourite of long term DMA's, but also use two more strong indicators to bolster my decision making. In the example you gave when CHTR 'bounced off' and 'cut' the 200DMA in Jan and Mar this year, two positive diverging signals from the MACD and RSI indicators occurred between these two periods. Although the CHTR share price was lower in March than in January, both the MACD and RSI were diverging positively, ie rising instead of falling. All of these facts pointed to a good chance that the share price might soon come out of its downward trend, which indeed was the case. Strong chart indicators these I find.

And some big buys above the offer at the close. I think there will be more upgrades and possible rerating soon. Bridgewell have hinted that they may do so yesterday (or was it the day before)....

Bridgewell restates its buy after an upbeat trading update. Broker adds: 'With the shares valued at only 12.6x our old (and very cautious, in our view) 2008 forecasts, versus 14.5x for the sector, we believe there is still scope for Charter shares to perform strongly over the coming quarters.'

Sounds simplistic I know, but I now very rarely sell a stock which I have held for a relatively long time i.e. I'm in profit on, unless the 50 DMA cuts the 200 and/or my profit falls to 5% of my original investment (or the company issues a profits warning in which case I'm usually straight out). .

It's sometimes, well often actually, unsettling watching paper profits evaporate, but the number of times you get a spectacular bounce at or around the 200DMA mark, if the 50 hasn't cut it, far outweighs the occasions that I have lost out.

CHTR is another where this has happened. The 50 cut the 200 on the up in August 03 and has been above it ever since. Despite temptations to reduce, not least when it bounced off, then cut the 200 DMA earlier this year, I held and, hopefully, will continue to be rewarded !!!

If I was allowed one indicator on my investment desert island, it would be a chart of the 50 & 200 DMAs !!!
