Think if you playing with 229k shares or money likes of BT then you would be classed in the rich bracket...

At heart am just a trader, like this one CNA,if this company was not paying that good dividend now I would sell up and move on. On records over the time I have made profit on over 95% + trades, I have a had a few big looses as well, but overall made many thousands. I don't think I am rich , and my brothers are far richer than me, even my eldest son (43) got about four times my equity.

Hi diku, that is the total sum of purchases all added up . I was really a trader in the past. Sometimes I would only hold a share a matter of minutes ( stamp duty free on ) other times days or a week on two. I think the best example of this a few years ago was Glencore, they really went down low, I think about the 70p mark. I just kept buying, watching for it go up a small amount each time ( as long as it covered the stockbrokers fees) then selling. I did not think to much until the end of the day and thought, never realised I had purchased that much. I'm not saying it's right or wrong it's just what I used to do. On a lot of days I was making 600- 800 pound a day. The most I made was 1,400. This is not for everybody and at sometimes it feels like a helter-skelter when you are doing it

jp...I seem to have lost the plot of your post 13178...in conjunction with post 13174...if you trading with 229k shares or money surely you can afford to go bluey on ADVFN!...

what is your strategy for investing in general? are you like to hold stock for years or decades , are you mid term investor or you more like a trader which means as soon are you on blue you sell? i am relatively new to investing but haven't found my ideal strategy yet

I will put it on again, these company's are handy in your portfolio because the only have to go up a small amount to make a profit ( just stockbroker fees )

Hopefully it will go well for you. It looks a great price at the moment, whether it hit the lows is anybody guess. Just hope this one will make a move soon back upwards, I thought we were on the way back, but we seemed to have not made much progress since we went xdiv. being - 10.50p on Wednesday 9th May, still it will be nice to get the 8.4p dividend at the end of the month

Like all of us in hindsight now we would have made a different call. On the down side I had IAG and sold them at 3.89 less than two years ago, they are now 6.85p ( had 60k of them) and on the other side I sold BT eight months ago at 2.81p they are now 2.06.p. ( 61k of them). Each of them I made a profit at the time. It's hard to get it right every time

It's a hard one , on stamp duty shares before Friday I would have said Vodafone, they had a good rise Friday and I think they will go up further before Wednesday ( xdiv Thursday) these have a tendency to drop heavily afterwards so if these don't go up a lot I would be looking to buy on Thursday if there's a big drop into 1.80s.All none stamp duty shares are on high at the moment ( I never buy high ). Sit and wait with money in the bank I put a list on the link below in blue. Have a good look at them and try to do a bit of research on each of them. Good luck

Couldn't agree more diku, I talk about 1.87p even, but there are a lot of you who bought 2.20, 2.30, 2.40 I feel sorry for you. The share price should be back up there, in my opinion this company was ok until all the talk about price capping, I think it just gave a lot of investors the jitters. Unfortunately it could be a long time before it gets back up there again. I would like to think we are there in less than two years but in the mean time as long as they pay that dividend I will just sit back

I have always done that in the past iceman. I still have 93.5k purchase price here.I could buy extra shares and lower my averages, but really I like to be in other company's as well. The money I got from the sale I bought Lloyds and might go for a couple of no stamp duty shares. I have 70k back to play with

I think all too often we all get sucked in just for the divi comfort...but the price stays lower...false sense of security...just imagine those who bought around 240p must be feeling looking at the price now...

Quite happy sitting back with this one ( I know at times I wish it would move a bit quicker ) I have 50k shares here, and need 1.87p to break even. I know there a lot of you with a lot more than I have. It would be hard to find another company paying this dividend as an investment
