Perhaps another strong run up to results, which seems to be a repeating theme. Preferably without the subsequent collapse this time :-)

A couple saying 70p. Maybe they meant 140p between them.

Panels versus a plant though ? Don’t know what difference we are talking between the 2 until we get some proper information .

Looking like a 120 day in readiness for results . A couple on here were saying 130-150 ...... who knows !?

Solar panels lose efficiency down to around 80% after 10 years or so. So, it would make sense to depreciate them over 10 years. Depends on how the FD wants to do it though, along with how good the manufacturer of the panels is.

Of course they will depreciate . My guess for the life of a “plant building” possibly as much as 50 years .. 2% ?? Either way you are correct of course there will be impact on P&L and I didn’t say otherwise . If it is 3 year payback we can only assume the cost cannot exceed the annual diesel costs but some of these are used other than for power and I presume the diesel plant will still be used to some extent . This is why the 3 year plan is important so we can get an angle on the projected actual savings and the cash outlay as to date they have failed to inform the market .

>"40mw solar plan is supposed to be 3 year payback ... the plant would be capitalised whilst the savings would add 100% to bottom line "

the savings on the diesel will go to the P&L but the solar once capitalised and operational will then feed depreciation to the P&L as well.
Depends how long they choose to depreciate it over.
Solar degrades over time - how long ? 10 years ?
Cash operational savings too but they will have to fund the solar in the first place.

For info ..
4.2 Energy efficiency and emissions management
Centamin’s approach to energy use is based on three strategic pillars. The first is to ensure a secure and ample supply of electricity in order to ensure every part of the business is able to run effectively. The second is to ensure operations use energy as efficiently as possible. Ensuring efficient use of energy helps to deliver valuable cost savings.
The energy needs of the Sukari Gold Mine are met by a 68MW onsite diesel fired power station. This is because the mine’s remote location is away from the Egyptian national grid, and the electricity required to operate Sukari exceeds the capacity of the power station in the nearest town of Marsa Alam and it is not possible to connect to this plant. Similarly the remote locations of Centamin’s exploration projects in Côte d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso, as well as the respective countries’ unreliable national grids, mean that diesel generators meet the energy needs of these projects. Should these projects move forward it is possible that electricity could be provided at least in part by the national grid

Zero, the power I think is from HFO generators

I know I should "do my own research" but how much down time was there in 2018 due to power issues? I've not considered the upside aspect of the solar that you've mentioned. Great point potentially, if down time isn't negligible. Cheers.

Sellmethispen, I think you are right in your thinking, that centamin may be over the worst. Note they have zero debt, I would expect a good divi in the spring of 2020 and also a re-rating of the shares (additionally if the UK carries on it current course of no deal Brexit, the divi will be worth more as its paid in US dollars). Of course there are those who disagree.

Take your capital and let your profits runs. Industrial metals take off before gold does. Some see recent POG action as a false dawn.

Following up with my last post, I wonder what anyone thinks about the medium to longer term prospects in regards to keeping hold of the shares as opposed to trading them? I’m talking 1 plus years, I know nothing is ever certain but I do believe that they have gotten past the problems of the last few quarters! Am I wrong?

Shayadfn, you can buy and sell this stock on FREETRADE at £1 for instant trade up to £9900. I am doing so and have found the site to be easy to use, ( and that’s coming from a techno idiot!) I have been trading this stock for a few months but have now decided that they have good longer term prospects and will now hang on to my position which is now quite a decent size, had thought fresnillo was a good bet but I think they may come down further before I jump back in, only my opinion of course!

Kenny, I have been doing on this stock since 2013 starting at 45p adding at 36p and doubling up at 28p. One of the reasons my holding is quite high, plus the divi is a good add on.

I agree 100% Shay ... you need confidence in the share to do what we had to but it is paying off . The “tree shake” is plausible ... the big boys still want the actual figures I think to bolster their sentiment and I think they have probably worked out by now the production / POG and forecast cost savings all add up to decent H1 profits and increased dividend . Getting in their last top ups before the 31st ? I got big lump back in sub 116p so happy having taken profit at 120.04 . Might do 1 more trade before the results but am gambling on a rise so don’t want to be out .
