06/8/2007 12:28 | Theres some good posts on iii about the draw. Fact of the matter is Spartak Moscow are ranked at 93 in UEFA rankings (versus Celtic at 34). They have been fairly garbage in Europe for the last 5 years. Theyve had their artificial pitch for the last 4 years so it doesnt seem to have given them any advantage. Also only 1 Russian side has ever won a UEFA trophy - CSKA won the UEFA cup a couple of years back. Add in the fact that Russian sides have a very poor record versus British then Im going to revise my odds and make Celtic 70-30 to qualify. However the 2 matches versus the Russkies are going to define the financial results for this year. Its the difference between breaking-even or posting a £15M profit. So its squeaky bottom time! | hugepants
03/8/2007 12:59 | I agree its not the best draw and prob about 50-50. However Fenerbache, AEK Athens, Toulouse, Sparta Prague were all in the draw as well so I dont regard Spartak as much different from that lot. Also Spartak only won 5 points last year in their CL section. As for Rangers wee they qualified for the CL 2 years ago by beating a Cypriot side. It looks like theyve struck it lucky again! | hugepants
03/8/2007 12:29 | Celtic get Spartak Moscow in CL qualifier. They currently lead the Russian league Tough one. The Huns have Tallin or Red Star Belgrade. Red Star are currently 4th in the Serbian league Jammy b*ggers | lqs
16/7/2007 23:11 | I'm not one to gloat, but... I think they are close to imploding over on the dark side. Messy deals built on shaky foundations - couldn't happen to a nicer club. | jsteveuk
16/7/2007 17:43 | LOL!! The Huns are under investigatoin | lqs
16/7/2007 13:02 | I think it was an £8mill bid for hearts. | louie76
16/7/2007 12:22 | Sunderland bid £5M plus possible £3M later for Gordon.. £5M is a journeyman bid these days. But Heartsd could do with the £8M. If £8M is for real, then take it. Ceitlc share price is indeed a gamble just now on the 3rd round tie situation... I'm inclined to wait for the tie opponents to be announced. If they lose that game, down into the 40's go the share, but if they win, 70p will still be on the table, cheap at the price as they could be 120p in 2008 or private. | hectorp
12/7/2007 20:14 | LOL!!!!!!This is superb. A guy blags his way into the Seville cup final. | lqs
11/7/2007 13:13 | Some of these valuations look a bit on the low side! I think a bid of £1.5M has already been turned down for Naylor. I dont think Strachan would sell him for less than £4M after the impact hes had. Incidentally Sunderland have reportedly bid £8M for Craig Gordon today. Thats a British record for a goalie. I wonder how much Boruc is worth? | hugepants
10/7/2007 12:39 | In fact theyre already doing this. £1M for Maloney even though he was free to move for nothing in 6 months! And £1.5M or thereabouts for Beattie a fringe striker. | hugepants
10/7/2007 12:36 | Prob insitutional buying. They may see Celtic as a much better investment than most of the Premiership clubs which seem to have so much money now they are spending 5M quid on journeymen players. I reckon Celtic have cottoned onto the fact that they will be able to sell players at big profits to the Premiership (or even the Championship) in the next few years. I think Riordan, a Bosman, will be sold for about £1.5M soon. And McDonald and Killen are no-lose bets as well because if they dont cut the mustard theyll both be sold on at decent profits. Miller also a Bosman is prob worth £2.5M or so. And Sno's going to be a great player. Mark my words! So the goal for Celtic should to get some of their manky paws on some of the Premiership cash by selling players at inflated prices and re-investing in quality Bosmans or Nakamura-type deals. End result of course being increasing the quality of the Celtic side! No point in seling players if the money isnt re-invested into something better. | hugepants
10/7/2007 12:22 | Sure enough SEYP jumped their bid from 60 to 62p and 1 minute later WINS jump to 62.5p. Mick | mickinvest
10/7/2007 12:10 | online limits now Sell 25k at 62.25 buy max 3750 at 62.9p WINS certainly chasing the price up on level 2, would be interesting to see SEYP take up the running again. On a separate note, how good is this song :>) | mickinvest
10/7/2007 11:36 | Cheers,fingers crossed | louie76
10/7/2007 08:22 | 3rd of August for draw. Mick | mickinvest
09/7/2007 16:45 | When is the draw? | louie76
09/7/2007 15:52 | I think Debrecen would be a good one as well. Hungarian football has been rubbish for decades now. There really isnt an easy tie at this stage but you'd have to wonder how the eastern European sides can compete now (heard that one before eh!). Id still make Celtic favourites whoever they are drawn against. | hugepants
09/7/2007 15:32 | Buying now is a punt on Celtic qualifying for the Champions League group stages in early August. If they dont make the share price is going only 1 direction (NOT UP!) However Celtic are seeded and will be favourites. But Fenerbache, AEK and Rosenborg (in mid season) are ones Id definelty choose to avoid! The Cypriots prob as good as a bye. | hugepants
06/7/2007 11:32 | MM's lined up 2v2 at the moment You can buy or sell 25k shares at 60.5-61.5p. Very tempting to add after looking at the squad we have and the performance last night. Add in the director buys of late and its looking like a march up to 70p is in order. Mick | mickinvest
05/7/2007 14:27 | Good to see that it was WINS who raised the bid to 59.5p yesterday and SEYP have jumped them today with 60p, bodes well for further rises. New season kicks off tonight with the friendly in Switzerland and good to be back to the pub to watch the hupes tonight. Mick | mickinvest |
