We would have had to pay tax on the profits Asagi so best getting deal after June 30th
Cheers MickinVest,
now why didn't I think of that.
But as a shareholder, I'd rather see an 'ahead' statement and a share price spike than any kind of warm glow I might get from a lower future tax bill.

We would have had to pay tax on the profits Asagi so best getting deal after June 30th if such a time to lose a player like Jota. Pity we didn't get some more players before but presume they need to let Rodgers review squad. Think we have a system in place via Lawwell's son and his links to Man City group for identifying transfers so hopefully that is the case as we now require a few midfielders for starters with Mooy retiring. Really only leaves O'Riley, McGregor, Iwata and Hatate. Fringe players would be Turnbull, McCarthy and new boy Holm. |
Fabrizio Romano says that the deal is for around €30m, that's £25.8m.
shame we didn't get the deal done during the financial year that closed at the end of June, maybe we'd have got a 'significantly ahead' statement.
Now there is the risk that Brendan Rodgers spends the money badly. As per wrtmf above, who thinks Rodgers can get a player of equal quality in with the proceeds?

my gut feeling is next season is going to be a disaster |
Jota is one of Celtic's very best players. Rangers sold Calvin Bassey to Ajax for £20m a year ago. You'd do well to find many that didn't think Jota was a superior player.
Asagi (long CCP) |
lol Jota is £7M-£8M player. They should bite the hand off anyone offering £20M |
year end is June i.e. today. If a deal for Jota is signed today, will a statement be required regarding the outcome for the full year?
I feel £25m is a little bit light for Jota, everyone else's thoughts?

There is talk now of Frimpong on the cusp of a big move to Spain or England. Another £5M due to Celtic if it happens. The money is rolling in. |
By our standards, that's a very unusual trade to have someone pay £1.34 for 6300 so early in the morning, maybe get a move up again today? |
Looks like Jota is off to Saudi for around £25m. Benfica will have 30% of anything over £7.5m so we'll end up with around £18m for him, big loss. |
bid (finally) ticks up to a 125p:135p spread following a buy of 5,000 shares at 132.4p this morning.

'Brendan Rodgers insists he's not worried about Celtic predecessor Ange Postecoglou raiding the club for his old players after Tottenham were linked with Kyogo Furuhashi and Reo Hatate.'
and ccv
-- he should be! |
big change for 24/25 season CL
'From 2024-25, all teams will now play eight matches (instead of six) against eight different opponents, with four home ties and four away.
All 36 sides will be ranked in one single league table - three points for a win, one for a draw and none for a defeat.
The top eight in this table will go straight into the knockout stages, while those from ninth to 24th will compete in two-legged play-offs to join them in the last 16.' |
Just over 3000 in a couple of trades and both buys at £1.32, we must be nearing a move up, I was hoping we would issue a statement today saying results would be materially above what the market were expecting but sadly not looking as if it's forthcoming unless they didn't want to interfere with the live Brendan interview this afternoon. |
this is unbelievable. Talk about killing the goose that lays the golden eggs. They are totally undermining the fixture as a spectacle, the Old Firm brand and thus the Celtic and Rangers brands.
Time the TV companies brought them both to heel.

not much action in the shares today but the balance certainly does seem to have tipped away from sellers to buyers given recent price action.

11,350 are all buys today, £1.23-1.32 spread at moment is pretty horrendous.
sure. But not as horrendous as advertised 120p:135p.
I'd rather have a 9p spread at mid of 127.5p than a 9p spread at, say, 104.5p. (I mean as the share price rises, the spread as a percentage of trading costs declines).

3 year deal I'm sure I read elsewhere Asagi and all the backroom staff staying with John Kennedy now officially Assistant manager, not sure if he was just a coach before? |
yep, Rodgers confirmed at 12:00. Nothing in statement to the Stock Exchange about contract length, just confirms his appointment as team manager.
Hats off to the board from this shareholder.
And... the buying begins. 10 shares at 129.3p.
As for Brendan Rodgers in Europe, that away win at Rosenborg to qualify for the Champions League group stage in 2017/2018 was the one I remember. Many other past Celtic managers would have lost that tie: Ange Postecoglou included.
Asagi (long CCP) |
That's it official now. |
I was quoted £1.201 to sell and £1.293 to buy there Asagi so not sure on the mid-price trades.
I was looking over Brendan's record in Europe during his three season and it was pretty decent for the squad we had. Think he won 8 CL qualifiers and lost to AEK Athens. We had a Europa qualifier which we won and qualified from the group only to lose to Valancia so he was pretty decent if you ignore the Maulings by Barcelona and PSG. |
