Shurely some mistake - massive share price rise on a volume of precisely 3 shares. And a dreadful general market.Massive buy in the background or a tech error?

Now there's a morbid silver lining. But if it does take hold as now seems likely then it may well remove some pensioners as well as impacting the mortality tables going forward. Not sure it would be enough to save Carclo though.

Having been a shareholder many years ago what I cannot understand is why the pension scheme needs so much money. The pension scheme was closed many years ago so surely a lot of pensioners would have died.

The pension trustees have nothing to lose and in end will screw up what could be a viable company providing good jobs. Why should current employees, not having, in most cases, equivalent benefits have to see their hard earned profits used to subsidise others.
Not blaming others but surely unfair.

The scheme is partially rate and inflation hedged but recent market moves are not helping. The silence is most concerning so IMHO the trustees are pushing the company to the edge on this one.

Management have lost the plot here.....

Pensions are going to be a major drag on companies ability to trade profitably if they are not in high margin products..

Subsequent governments have made the economy unable to compete, profits are being eroded by cheap Chinese companies, who work until they die.. ...

I shudder to think where the pension deficit is headed with falling bond yields and falling equity markets.

Possibly grasping at straws, but could CTP's medical division be a beneficiary of increased demand related to coronavirus? I see they list "respiratory" as one of their areas.

If you boys want an explanation as to why the shares are weak it is all to do with the pension deficit. This article is quite helpful in explaining the situation where weak employers such as Carclo might be forced into insolvency.

spudders - Might it not be MM's playing games and trying to balance their books? Minimal volume either way.
