aljm - it was very up & down today,

I did a test btwn on the impact of algo trading by value btwn 14.44 & 14.58 bearing in mid what you have been saying about ATs

At that time the share price was pulling down at perhaps 38.85 to 38.00 & bouncing up to 38.85. its just a random section of trading today. 96% of trades by value were algo. It was a lucky sample showing them trading against other!

Here's a list of the whole day of trades by value. I put it on a graph to try to see when the kick in & what they are doing. it might have to be broken down into briefer time spans & compared with factors like you say the FTSE movement. A list of IIs might be handy to see what their algos do on other shares. It is right that a big investor would have their system linked onto their broker's trading platform, or use their facility for house keeping adjustments to their holding like these, isn't it?

Agree, value being generated is too burdened by cost. It may not be cheap if cost isn't better controlled.

totally agree, totally broken, only to benefit the very small minority..good news, decent buy v sell nothing will change any SP, not just this one, but all of the top 350 is all down to how much money the MM;s can generate for their Co's....

i always thought SETS was to automate the market, and take the MMs out of the process, how wrong i was.....

this stock shows just what a wasteland the uk stock market has become. It's a large company with a strong tech angle yet it is valed like a penny stock even though there has just been a very robust trading statement and the company has a very strong future

completely rigged, no other words for it

yet again , buys v sells mean nothing, good news means nothing, FTSE drops 30 points , CPI loses 5% .words fail me

mbaxter - thanks for advice, appreciate it, I've probably done enough to ration output!

Almost everyone here feels frustration from their own approach to it, its a theme.

I number crunch to see what moves the big money. As someone said, CPI was once run by accountants for accountants, the financial format passed on was made accessible because they saw a +ve in the predictability of their income compared to competitors. There is a lot there. I try to make constructive comments but the outcome is as tedious as everyone else's feelings on share price

aljm made the other day about his company being valued on the basis of asset valuations rather than an index. A lot of the IIs would have got in here & set their algos up when CPI would have been compared to the indexes for all that background above. I've run a few tests on AT trade volumes etc but really there is no escaping as you say having confidence in the management or not/not yet.

owlbaby - you'll drive yourself mad! It is almost impossible to unpick what is going on with such large companies, which is why analysts, credit rating agencies etc etc get it wrong so often. Always amuses me how given access to more or less exactly the same information they can come up with such divergent views of a company's prospects. With companies like Capita it is basically a punt on management's ability to execute their announced strategy. If there is any sign that they are struggling, it is pointless staying invested.

I have a schedule of contract wins & a comparison with order book figures.

The decimal places are in the wrong place on wins if revenue is expected to be £3.5bn(YE 19 = 3.6 bn, YE 18 3.78bn).

The business is relying on order book bfwd 6.7bn (YE18 7.07bn) whilst aiming to move to a business model with less LT contracted work.

News announced since mid April (about 3mths) has wins of about £161m & of that 42m seems to be in year revenue & £119 added to order book (Irish Water, Teachers Pen).

List from web site

Suffolk education services 1.3m, New partnership Finantix - no figure, Largest virtual workforce set up 200 rising to 1200 - could that be £5k per head = £6m or £12m?, Irish Water 10m Euros x 5 years + 17m x2 = 84m, Celebrating Pride virtual (not sure, is that a web site? or solidarity, lets say 100k?, Visual analytics partnership 0, Westward Housing Group 0.56m, Drafonfly AI new partner 0, Teacher's Pension £60m over 4yrs, Border Force 3.1m.

hxxps://www.capita.com/news

Would you bet an investment manager at an II would recognise how the old model has given relative resilience to CPI revenue in a Covid crisis. Perhaps they'd weigh up whether the 119m will be sufficient to replenish the order book & then look harder at the rate of in year wins & be slow upgrading their view on share price in until they were very convinced.

aljm / natty27 << if you saw my earlier posts, the ftse market is a value trap at the moment, we don't have the same growth stocks like NASDAQ, and have been let down by regulators and central banks. I have experienced same problems with stocks like Sainsbury, Marks and Spencer, BT, RBS; I have learned the lesson to buy a few in the dips but sell a few not too long after, because the gains are being eroded, and there is always risk of a bear market.

when you see single digit AT's you really think they are orders being filled ? not just talking about this one, ALL SETS, i have a screenshot somewhere of a whole page of 1 AT trades , all went through on same second....

aljm Are you referring to the Automatic Trades rather than orders?

Are those AT's stop losses being taken out on the sell side? Cheers NR

it is utterly disgusting, totally rigged ! false trades all the time, and the best bit it is legal, not just this one, all over the market, too many Companies having their values slaughtered by this madness, what happened to Company figures meaning anything ? what happened to buy v sell meaning anything,
