I took a leaf out of your trading book Phil and decided to open up a short on BRBY too. My first time to short a quality company as this but the downtrend looks too strong to ignore + all this uncertainty coming out from such a key market like China.

Although it's difficult to ignore what's happening on the high street/ retail sector, it's worth totally ignoring what Liberum have to say. Remember their note on SuperGroup the day before results- they got it totally wrong

Phil - you're right, short positioning seems likely to be the name of the game in this market. Early doors I know but am puzzled by the weakness of the market especially the dollar against a currency like the yen. Against all my instincts I bought the Yen against the Dollar (simply based on prevailing market action) before Christmas and was convinced I would screw it up. In times of turmoil one would expect the greenback to go up (especially against a currency like the yen who is being and will be debased as far out as the eye can see) but that is not the case at the moment it seems. Should be an interesting Jan this one I reckon!

The trend is still down and until it stays so there is no particular worry to jump in, in my opinion. This is a super business and its day in the sun will certainly arrive at some point (I know, I know am stating the obvious:). Until then, I will very probably torture myself with never ending patience whilst waiting for the market action to tip off a reversal in BRBY's fortunes. GLA

HSBC cuts price on Burberry, retains 'buy' rating

(ShareCast News) - HSBC has cut its target price on fashion label Burberry from 1,800p to 1,500p while retaining its 'buy' rating.
The investment bank noted a brutal shift in sales momentum, with the company being the fastest growing large soft luxury company up until September, where it was outperforming Gucci, Prada and Louis Vuitton.

However, the rate of growth in retail like-for-like sales growth dropped from 6% to -4% that quarter.

"Out of the 10 points delta, we estimate that the overall industry slowdown explains c3 points and unfavourable geographic mix (overexposure to weak regions such as Asia and HK, underexposure to strong regions such as Continental Europe and Japan) another c3 points."

HSBC said it believe the rebound will be gradual with the Paris attacks, a promotional US market and warmer than usual weather.

With that in mind, the bank cut the company's target price on the back of lower estimates.

"We have cut our FY March 16-18% EPS estimates by 2%, 10% and 12% respectively. We are 3%, 5% and 8% below consensus, respectively."
