I would have though the apt of John Smith to the Exec team is a positive thing - certainly media will play an ever increasing role in helping some brands stay ahead of the pack.

Luxury fashion brand Burberry strutted its stuff with a gain of 34p to 1274p on revived bid hopes. Gucci-to-Yves Saint Laurent luxury brands group PPR is said to be on the verge of selling its US Redcats division and rumours suggest its super-rich boss Francois-Henri Pinault is raising cash to launch an £18 a share cash offer for Burberry.
