Burberry fell 48p to £18.28 as JP Morgan Cazenove downgraded the luxury sector, which has benefited from a strong dollar but could suffer now the US currency has started to slip. It said:

[We] are cutting Luxury from overweight to neutral. The sector was yet another huge beneficiary of the currency move and we note that Hong Kong luxury sales are weakening again.



Burberry also took a hit from a bearish note on the luxury goods sector from JP Morgan, which lowered its rating on Louis Vuitton maker LVMH to drag down the rest of the sector.
Burberry shares closed down 48p at £18.28, making it the biggest faller on the FTSE 100 index.

Keep An Eye On Burberry

Its shares had long been perceived as a terrific bet on growth in emerging markets, luxury stuff and rising disposable income there, so Burberry has become a less obvious pick since the second half of 2011, after a +700% rally in less than three years. Still, since the growth premium in emerging market has fallen, shareholders have continued to enjoy very healthy returns and rising income.

Currency risk can bring short-term volatility in the stock -- a strong pound is bad news for this fashion retailer -- and must not be underestimated, but the underlying business is solid, and boats a higher operating margin and a slightly higher dividend yield than Ted Baker.
Furthermore, Burberry's stock trades at 20% discount versus Ted Baker's, based on most trading metrics.

Burberry announces digital collaboration with Korean group

British luxury brand Burberry has announced the launch of the official Burberry SSG.com store – a new digital collaboration with the South Korean luxury department store Shinsegae Group.

The new online store offers Korean consumers a tailored assortment of Burberry products, allowing them to have a seamless experience of the brand both in physical stores and online.

The custom-built, dedicated space mirrors the brand’s own online flagship store, Burberry.com, consistent with Burberry’s luxury positioning. It offers collections from Burberry Prorsum, Burberry London, Burberry Brit, Heritage and Accessories.

The store, accessible in South Korea across all mobile, tablet and desktop devices, offers womenswear, menswear, childrenswear and accessories.

Shinsegae Group includes a wide array of businesses in South Korea such as retail, fashion, hospitality, food and beverage, and infrastructure.
