At least Labour don't want to renationalise BT.

BT had a large delegation at this year's Labour party conference, probably wise.

BT putting up their prices, what a shocker, absolutely disgusting. Of course none of their competitors would do something so despicable.

Just to clarify the Premier League sell's it's UK rights in 'packages' of which there were seven last time around. Sky got the majority, followed by BT and the BBC got the highlights package (MOTD). No one company can bid for all the packages. The Premier League has currently sold the International rights to various broadcasters around the globe, again no one broadcaster has exclusivity. Charles Clore - your point about Amazon not having broadband is hilarious - I have BT broadband through which I can access Amazon......

How would Amazon distribute football matches on the mobile network? They don't have broadband. BT does and a lot of it to boot! (get it?)

DMF, the honest answer is that I don't know.

As they have a very large chunk of both UK mobile and broadband
there must be some value?.

I have read somewhere that GP has 'drawn a line in the sand' as to how much BT will pay and not go beyond !

This worries me on BT, if Amazon come in for football rights no one can outbid them.
So I got BT broadband for the free football, will customers leave if football on the Amazon channel or will BT and Sky pay more.

EI are you suggesting BT is in terminal decline and will not recover from the share price drop ?

Clearly BT need to 'hive off' Global Services, may have to be a 'fire sale' but need to dispose of the lower margin/less profitable operations.....surely this is what GP will look at !!

Going against sentiment can be very profitable,
however your rational for buying has to be validated, at least to an extent.

The commodity meltdown in miming was largely predicated on a Chinese recession,
which never occured.

you are correct essential.
RIO adjusted for rights price just below £17 was the low during jan 2016.

the only point I was making is that just about every share I have owned has over a period of time halved or doubled.
Very few exceptions.

And yet if you plotted a graph of top line revenue, assets, cash flow, they are often quite steady.
Look at the sales of any company.

Plot the oil supply/demand numbers.
Chinese growth numbers.
All quite smooth and steady.

Volatility is created by those city punters who would have nothing to do otherwise.
unlike Buffett, they overtrade turning the market into a casino.

we should not take these market share prices seriously.
We each own a small bit of a powerful company, that is all.
today trading at less than half price of 2 years ago.

A long term holder pf Rio,
I have been amused by the ride from £10 per share, to £71 back down to below £10,
rights issue, now £37.

Capital values are meaningless in the long term.
Just dividends, profits, cash flows.
