Think BATs - like many other companies - have given up on quarterly updates (partly because these are not mandatory now).

However, as from January 2018 BATs are introducing quarterly dividend payments.

Jefferies questions BAT delivery but retains ‘buy’

British American Tobacco (BATS) is still Jefferies’ top tobacco pick but the analyst believes ‘multiples could remain contained’ until there is more clarity around some parts of the business.

Analyst Owen Bennett retained his ‘buy’ recommendation and target price of £65.00 on the shares, which rose 2.2% to £48.31 yesterday.

‘While expected near-term growth is impressive, as is the potential upside to the current valuation, there remain questions over two key elements of delivery,’ he said.

‘While BAT remains our long-term pick, until we get more clarity on BAT’s vapour portfolio positioning and the outlook for the US domestic tobacco business, two key drivers of the near-term group assumptions, we think the multiple could remain constrained.’

Bennett urged the company to consider a capital markets day, especially considering its recent acquisition of Reynolds.

WASHINGTON, Aug. 18, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/

-- Following new allegations about the conduct of British American Tobacco (BAT) in Africa –published today by The Guardian – the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids is urging the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to investigate BAT and its subsidiaries for possible violations of the anti-bribery and accounting provisions of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). Tobacco-Free Kids requested the investigation in a letter today to the two government agencies.

British American Tobacco has faced mounting allegations that the company engaged in widespread bribery and corruption in Africa to gain advantage over competitors and stifle government efforts to curb smoking. Earlier this month, the U.K. Serious Fraud Office (SFO) formally launched an investigation of BAT on suspicions of corruption.
