Bats went higher when US opened yesterday are they rotating out of tech into high yielding shares. The big one tonight after hours is Nvidia, I think that could be up 10% or down 10% tomorrow, that will set the tone for Thursday shares. The analyst has such a high bar for Nvidia figures.

It is notable that NZ overturned their smoking ban, the Gov was not able to function without the tax revenues, they also recently overturned the ban on OnG exploration as they have now realised they cannot function as a country without it, or the taxes levied on it.. I see that logic gathering momentum..

Unless they are going to need the tobacco tax income to fund light communism.

I have a high weighting in this share,it's the biggest investment shareholding i have by a long way,but i'm nervous now going into November's US election.I intend to halve my holding sometime after the next ex-div date and before 5th November just in case Harris wins.If Trump wins i intend buying straight back in on 6th November as i don't see him as a threat when it comes to regulation of big tobacco as he was benign in his first term. However if Harris and the Democrats win then i can see them giving the FDA the green light to go for more tobacco legislation, banning menthol and seriously restricting vapes. A little paranoid maybe, but i'm not prepared to risk it.The stamp duty on repurchasing will be high but the cost outweighs the potential risk of staying in for four years of a Harris presidency.Harris will be no friend to big tobacco imho.

Even allowing for the write down of assets in the cigarette brands market by BAT you do have to believe there's some more mileage in the share price here.BAT up 18% in 6 months whereas Altria up 29% and PM up 35% in the US.Okay a weakening dollar helps US earnings from overseas operations so will help MO and PM, and a strengthening GBP has the opposite effect for BAT as it derives a lot of income from the US, but currency fluctuations shouldn't massively impact share price performance.Consensus forecast is maintained for full year results here so let's hope for £28+ in the build up to the next dividend date.

I think a test of 2900 before 26.09 seems very possible.
Any wobble that gets this down to circa 2700 will see me add further as it's clear the broadening out into high yielders is gathering pace.

Good luck all 👍🏻

#Monty, IMB were over 4000 back in 2016 so a long way to go there, but as a holder it would be great to see a return to any where near those levels, BATS peaked at 5500 in the same year.. :o)

With PM at all time share price highs it would be interesting to know what the share price here would be with a primary listing in New York and a more liquid market.Like PM,BAT has a global reach and is growing its NGPs.Okay BAT's debt is greater in relative terms but it isn't as if PM is debt free...it isn't.Purely hypothetical question i know unless management really consider a headquarters in the US.

They quote 3900 as fair value so let's hope we can at least get to 3000 and something before too much longer.

Happy to add at circa 2700 though should it want to go there first and pick up the lovely regular dividends.

Good luck all 👍🏻

I think once we get one more interest rate cut, then investors will look at shares yielding more than 8%.A couple out there of course, but Bats with quarterly payments in an isa will surely look attractive.

There again I suppose low volume, but with buybacks may push price up.Who knows anybody's guess.

Very possible monty with the UK holiday and Labor day in the US not that far away now.

Expectation though is for the FED to start cutting next month and I am sure we too will get another cut before the end of 24. That has to be good for high yielders and I am sure north of 2800 will come back around in the autumn and a challenge of 2900 too maybe in the Santa rally.

Good luck all 👍🏻

I think that's a good price target and have it down for my next top up.
Could see a test of 2900 happen in the run to the next divi in my opinion.

Good luck all 👍🏻

What would you sell the other half for? I'm in two minds, we been in for the rise from around 2350p, 2807p top sliced a few. In Nvidia for next week figures, but looking at Phoenix, may have missed the boat there though.

Not at all surprised to see a little pullback from 2800p, it will take a few runs at it and over it to stick, then 26.09.2024 for the next XD for 58.88 pence.. :o)

I sold half my shares for a good profit at 2811, keeping the rest for now. I wanted to diversify away from tobacco for dividends so am buying BRWM as part of that change of tack.
