jailbird, Your list includes brick makers like Fort and MBH but they are not the same animal since MBH primarily make high specification bricks whereas Fort not only make bricks but blocks, precast, roofing products and paving too. BRCK has an even wider range of products but does not manufacture any bricks. I own MBH and BRCK along with BREE and SRC for exposure to construction and industrial uses of stone and lime.

I doubt one could reasonably sum up the sector to apply evenly to each of these companies.

I think you can DYOR by reading the investor relations pages for each company and work out which will benefit or suffer most form whatever scenario you think will occur.

you pays your money and you take your chance - personally i like NXR and EPWN - but thats not a recommendation by any means to others that my personal choice. Note norcros havent updated trading since 16th November and probably wonnt update till next month - personally i like to review stocks just after updates rather than just before adding - brickability being example of fact that many companies are currently dampening expectations when they update at presesnt still - at leats if you buy just after news you are reasonablky up to date with what they know and aint told you yet !. Epwin updated in confident manner on 25th January so they have more recently confirmed trading is ok (probably one of the few to be reasonably confident that have updated recently - upper end of range of expectations year just finished and no new year downgrades "Confident outlook for FY 2024")

binghall, couldn't agree more. BRCK is not just bricks and has found ways to exploit other angles of building trade supply. Might be depressed for a while but once the current constraints begin to lose their power we should see good longer term performance.

I don't think there are many surprises given the present state of the housing industry. I can't see much upward movement until we get the election out of the way so that the presiding party (probably Labour) 'unleash' their housing vision, and to see rates confirmed as peaking with a timetable to drop. In the meantime this is a well-run, conservative company and it's interesting to see that the CEO has increased his holding to 11%. No worries for me at the moment, the UK market is materially undervaluing many good quality companies.

Anything to do with constuction may end up dropping then?

who knows - at some point there will be a low point of activity - looking at dropoff of brick supply i would hazard a guess that ref bricks they may have already passed the lowpoint.
Note once its pretty obvious tthat hings are turning upwards ref numbers one would expect that the money that has departed may start coming back into stock like these.

A mild profit warning that was IMO pretty much expected given the c 33% drop in brick imports for Nov and Dec 2023 (Https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/65bd1a15c43191000d1a44e1/Construction_Building_Materials_-_Commentary_January_2024.pdf Surprised though that's it's been on a decent upwards trajectory from October, making well in excess of 50% in 4 months.

Surprised it didn't fall more with that rns tbh.

Perhaps - but they did hit the bottom range of expectations and it was reasonably well speculated upon (perhaps not here) that the next update was more likely to be bad than good - so i dont think many peeps are surprised with the news today.

P/E 7.7, div yield 4.5%, StockRank 98.

Note Barnesian they have just splashed £100mill on acquisitions that still mostly need to be paid for - so one should be expecting perphaps slightly lower p/e now due to the new added debt. Its always risky when you debt is involved ref acquisitions - its not as if these acquired companies have good long history of making the level of profits they make now - these acquired companies have clearly seen higs windfall the last couple of years - how long that fantastic trading/margins will continue is anyones guess. In some respects if anything margins on acquired businsses look too high to be sustainable long term - thats on tehn basis if you are making too much from your customers someone will come in sooner or later and offer beter value.

The UK political and economic climate is awful at the moment. It will turn round in a year or two and this share will shine as housebuilding comes back on the agenda. I've topped up this morning (10K)for a long term hold.

850000 buy yesterday from the CEO, off set a bit by the 300k sell but he still has 20m left. Thats a big buy even for him.

Seeing as the CEO already had 10% of the co. another 150,000 buy must be seen as a positive.
