The latest statement seems to have done a lot of good for the share price ...
of Clarkson (CKN).

1. there was a positive agm statement in June
2. there was a very positive trading statement in September
3. by implication the upgrades based upon the september statement are way insufficient, hence the very positive updating of the update yesterday

short of giving the actual numbers or issuing a statement telling all shareholders to hold on to their shares, there is not much more a company can do to indicate what huge profits are on the way.....

This surely must be one of the most exciting BBs on ADVFN! I note also that the company has such exciting news at its disposal that today's big anouncement was that an employee had acquired 472 shares at 148. At least if he/she sells capital gains tax won't be an issue!

well, bought in and its gone down, still brokers must be coining it in so still expect this to fly but maybe closer to May now when the results are due.

Tillman - at last someone who sees the point. There are always some strange things going on in the city - quite often at opening and closing times as well with the bigger stocks : However two big 'ouches' recently have been with ENV (director buying at very low prices instead of buying back the shares into the company) and with one of the Close VCTs.

On prospective PEs : well that is anyones guess. Should be good but its a mad world at the moment with shipping prices rocketing. Some folks think that CKNs prospective PE is much lower than BMS and so has further to go. I assume you have seen the discussion on both threads.

I see what you are saying A0002577 and yes info. does leak and this looks a bit of a classic case.

I hold CKN and am now watching BMS with interest.

I would be interested to know what the prospective p/e ratios are for both these companies...both look good to me.

well now we discussing it I think I maybe interested enough to get into BMS, currently long on Corus for much the same reason..in as much as both companies set to benefit from the rise of China, directly or indirectly.

FYG - 55pct of BMS stock is stock is held by the employees - think you will find this is a much higher percentage than CKN !!!!

No - don't read that BUT there have been articles everywhere about shipping and how London is the centre for shipping. The oddity here is that BMS went up and the others didn't. So I am still suspicious. I have been watching BMS for years but decided to invest in CKN in the same sector because their employees hold a substantial slice of the company and therefore will be working hard - that is part of my investment style. I am very happy with the way they (CKN) have performed cos I am sitting on a near 200% rise - and holders of BMS must also be happy.

There was a big article in Tradewinds, not sure if you read this but the entire shipping community do and I think this had something to do with it.

come come £100Man - I do do my own research - I am in no way blaming MadOne (or you) it is the simple fact that two working days before the announcement heavy buying occurs leading to substantial price rises and that leads on to a simple question 'was there a leak?'
a0002577

You should do your own reaserch, don't blame Madone, anybody following shipping markets, which i assume you are will know that the market in nearly all sectors has taken off, broker commissions on Dry Cargo for example have probably gone up 300%, SnP Brokers will also see their earnings rise this year on the back of substantial rises in Shipbuilding resales etc, I am not an owner of BMS but have been watching them for a few months now, just in something else at the moment so decided not to move over, I however think they are good value now.

I assume MadOne that you are referring to me. I don't hold any shares in BMS - quite right - and don't intend to buy any. However they are a bellwether for the 'shipping' sector, so I keep an eye on them. (see CKN thread).

However the point here is that two working days before the announcement the price started to rise sharply and the volume went up markedly. To my mind that is suspicious and you (who presumably are a shareholder) will have done well on the mark up - and well done for having them.

If you can't see that there is another information flow going to institutional investors - at the expense of the private investor - then you are missing something about the markets - this could be an example of an information flow disadvantaging the private investor.

Anyway if you are a holder 'hang on in there' - well for a bit anyway. But don't fall in to the trap that tech investors fell into

Can anyone explain to me why two days before making the trading update these shares started to climb? and with much higher volume than usual

Price on 22nd : 236.5
price on 23rd : 251
price on 26th : 272.5

Announcement on 27th : price goes up again

And CKN even better value now with BMS having risen sharply and CKN having drifted slightly lower. Large uptick due in CKN as results approach to reflect this price disparity.

Braemer Seascope BMS

5 year eps 29.5p, 19.9p, 17.5p, 12.2p, 14.14p (pathetic imo - negative 20% pa)

Forecast eps 15.5p - PE 15.6.

Clarkson CKN

5 year eps 3.5p, 4.1p, 25.2p, 34.5p, 18.3p (50% compound per annum despite last years dip)

Forecast eps 44.15p - PE 11.7.

Clarkson have said results are likely to be significantly ahead too. Compound eps for 5 years from 3.5p to the 50p we expect them to do (possibly more) is 70% compound per annum, PE 10.

Even after the recent rise CKN is massively undervalued compared to BMS - BMS up 4.2% today.

Bags better value in CKN imo.
