I agree to a point. Sometimes I think there trying to please all of the people, sound bites. I do agree with you about Princess Nut Nut should keep her snout out of it. Not 100% sure about the numbers of barrels, 1 million I believe. Fossil fuel isn't going away just yet. Gas boilers will also be around for quite a while also. Heat pumps, you'll need plenty of jumpers in an ordinary older homes.

Freaky European wholesale natural gas prices have calmed down in the last couple of days, from being 9x higher to just 6x higher than last winter. Still freaky, and I wonder what has been conceded to whom in order to ease the squeeze.

US natural gas futures, in contrast, peaked at 2x last winter's price in September and are now just 45% higher. Very different markets. The US is in better control of its own supply than Europe, or can pump more from own resources, or has better storage or ...

The UK, and Europe in general, needs to have better own-supply and better import arrangements, it is absurd to rely so much on Russia while we continue to confront them on so many issues. Extra LNG tankers from Qatar was an emergency response. Now let's have a coherent long-term energy security strategy which protects us from future squeezes and the damage that does to our economy and to domestic charges.

We recently announced we're building HyGreen Teesside, a green #Hydrogen facility that will form part of the UK's leading hydrogen transport hub. But what is green hydrogen, and why does it matter for the future of energy?

I'm surprised anyone thought it was sensible to have a reliance on Russia for Natgas for our power needs frankly...

Terrifying.

And self-defeating.

Russia has been throttling continental pipeline gas deliveries to punish us for the delay in approving Nord Stream, to demonstrate that being dependent on them is foolish.

It will improve BPs case for natural gas to be considered a "green" transition fuel, and for the UK / Europe to approve development of reserves in the North Sea.

The Ukraine military build up is in response to US / NATO seeking to deploy Russia-facing capability in former Eastern Bloc countries. Just as the Cuba crisis was a response to the US deploying missiles in Turkey, rather than uni-lateral aggression. Our press, now as then, ain't telling it like it is. Whether or not you think Russia needs teaching a damn good lesson, for all its faults, the solution, now as then, is for the Western military alliance to back down.

The diplomatic outcome will be recorded in history as Russia being forced to withdraw troops in exchange for being allowed to pump gas via Nord Stream.

Unfortuntely in the meantime Plan A to try and get through our winter without enough stored gas or piped supply means frightening prices.

I struggle to see how BP is going to reduce it's oil output by 40% in 8 years while purchasing very large oil assets.
