01/12/2020 10:31 | Wintry Weather Arriving in Europe Boosts Power and Gas Prices Colder-than-normal weather settling into Europe over the next week is poised give the second boost to natural gas and power markets since the start of the heating season. The chill is raising hopes that after record warmth in 2019 this winter reverts closer to the 30-year average. Energy prices are rising on the expectation that coronavirus restrictions may boost energy demand for heating. The weather will also test a theory new to the market this year, that power and gas demand will rise more quickly in cold weather in than in previous years. The reasoning is that those stuck working at home will dial up heat that would otherwise switched down during their hours in the office. | crazi

01/12/2020 10:23 | Pfizer, BioNTech Seek Clearance to Sell Covid Vaccine in Europe By Naomi Kresge 1 December 2020, 10:00 GMT Pfizer Inc. and partner BioNTech SE sought regulatory clearance for their Covid-19 vaccine in Europe, putting the shot on track for a potential approval there before the end of the year. Regulators around the world are racing to review inoculation data, with governments eager to start vaccinating their populations to curb the pandemic. Rival Moderna Inc. requested clearance in the U.S. and Europe on Monday. The U.K. invoked a special rule to allow its regulator to bypass its European Union counterpart and may be the first to sign off on the Pfizer-BioNTech product. The U.S. isn’t far behind, with a Food and Drug Administration panel set to meet on Dec. 10 to discuss the vaccine. If the European Medicines Agency concludes that the benefits of the Pfizer-BioNTech shot outweigh its risks, it will recommend granting a conditional clearance that could enable the shot to be rolled out in Europe before the end of the year, the companies said in a statement. | crazi

01/12/2020 08:47 | With BP the first oil giant to announce massive green initiatives any attack on Shell can only make BP look better...imho BP share price took a 100 point hit when they announced the strategy. It really should have increased but it may be the market is only starting to realise the momentum and support the world is now showing towards green projects. Good foresight Mr new CEO... Another big reason why BP is massively underpriced... | crazi

01/12/2020 07:19 | THE SCOTSMAN Shell: Court case in Netherlands could force fossil fuel companies to get out of oil and gas altogether – Dr Richard Dixon Shell is in court today in the Netherlands for the first day of a case which could see them have to get out of fossil fuels altogether. By Richard Dixon Tuesday, 1st December 2020, 7:00 am Fossil fuel companies will be nervously watching a court case in the Netherlands which seeks to make oil giant shell change its strategy, says Richard Dixon Shell is the second-biggest oil company in the world and around the globe it is responsible for twice as much carbon dioxide emissions as the country it is based in, the Netherlands. And, despite knowing about the role of fossil fuels in climate change for decades and despite the targets in the Paris Agreement of 2015, the company is still investing in expanding production and has actively tried to block action on the climate crisis. In April 2018, our sister Friends of the Earth group in the Netherlands and six other organisations announced they would take Shell to court if it did not change course. In April 2019, the court case began, and it is now backed by over 17,000 ordinary citizens as co-plaintiffs. There are expected to be four days of hearings this month with a judgement from the court expected in January. | the grumpy old men
