25/10/2013 11:27 | christh, benefits of buybacks is just theory, if and when it does have some effect on the divi more than likely the divi increase will be more likely performance related...and of course it the divi becomes too large some reason will be found to reduce it (eg AV.& RSA of recent times) minor benefits of buy backs will be lost. As you can see I am not a fan of buy backs, much prefer to see the 'spare' cash invested in new developments accompanied by some cash returns to shareholders if there is still a surplus. | optomistic
25/10/2013 11:12 | Think i'll register for scrip divis and just leave these to germinate for a few yrs in the SIPP. | pineapple1

Ramp away under your own avatar and leave me out of it: "PramBigear 24 Oct'13 - 15:39 - 83622 of 83634 0 0 edit There appears to have been a sudden and continued wave of selling, just over the last hour. 25/10/2013 11:07 | optomistic 25 Oct'13 - 10:20 - 83632 of 83634 The technical terms PE and EPS will rise once they take a certain % of shares out of the market. The reduction of the shares in the market will create a demand and this shortage will push the price higher. Capitalisation will increase and it will eventually have less shares at a much higher price. It is worth for the company doing this as the cash in the bank will not pay much interest so this is a more effective way in realising your asset value. Also the less shares available the higher the dividend for the existing shareholders. Companies that I know have had a share Buyback program are BT, RIO etc. long term is very beneficial. | christh

25/10/2013 09:59 | PramBigear 24 Oct'13 - 15:39 - 83622 of 83630 well, I am a buyer at these levels as the price should be around 550p-600p. The yield is excellent at this price. The dividend off course will rise as the share buyback program continues. In a couple of years will pay around 30p dividend and the price could move to £6 provided the growth continues. Short term rise to 485p. | christh
