A solid set of results and a nice cash position. Still waiting for the decision from the PASA tender but if that comes good this has to be a very attractive share.

It's not awards I want to see but contracts. Still no follow up yet from the showcase hospitals but I understand there will be an update on the situation with the finals planned for later this month. Having said that I guess the award shows the process was very effective.

How much of BQE's profit is recurring?
Is it now used in a number of hospitals, or are they vying for a big conract?

Anybody know how things are going at BQE? Since director buys at 175/180p we've had trading update refering to commercial discussions with 7 hospitals about continuing the bioquell proactive service. As far as I can make out the DoH funding finished in 2008 and nothing announced since. Has this showcase stuff come to nothing? Is that why share price now just above £1?

They should have good things to say about 2008 but what's their latest view likely to be for 2009?

Rumour of the day

Bioquell, the provider of hydrogen vapour kit to hospitals designed to kill MRSA and other infections, surged 25½p to 170p as 6 per cent of the company changed hands. An institution is thought to be snapping up stakes held by two forced sellers. Department of Health trials at seven hospitals of Bioquell's RoboCleaner are said to be going well.

Robot blasts bleach vapour into hospital rooms in battle against superbugs

By Daily Mail Reporter
Last updated at 3:48 PM on 25th June 2008

Health chiefs are trialling a hi-tech machine to blast bleach vapour into treatment rooms to battle deadly infections including MRSA and C-difficile.

The computer-operated machine, which bears a passing resemblance to StarWars Robot R2-D2, pumps hydrogen peroxide vapour into a room.

It remains inside the sealed room for 90 minutes. Then vapour is then pumped out without leaving residue and the room is ready for the next patient.

The machine was created by Hampshire-based Bioquell, whose research and development director David Watling designed the Star Wars robot character R2-D2.

It has started four-month trials at seven hospitals across the country, including the Manchester Royal Infirmary.

Chief nurse Gill Heaton, who is in charge of infection control at the hospital, said: 'This is a landmark project, and we are very pleased to have been chosen as one of the seven pioneering sites.

'Developing an infection in hospital is a worry for many patients and infection control is a top priority for the six hospitals in our trust. We've worked very hard over the past year to significantly reduce infections.

'As a result, we are one of the best performing trusts in the north west, and this expertise in infection control has been reinforced by our selection.'

The trust is also testing a skin disinfectant to use before attaching drips to patients.

Paul Cryer, project manager for the trials, said: 'We chose Manchester because of their very clear determination to significantly reduce infection in their hospitals, and also their enthusiasm for sharing what they have learnt with other NHS hospitals and staff.'

The hospitals will collect evidence of how effective the products they test are and share the information successful products with other hospitals.

The other six Showcase Hospitals are in Wolverhampton, Calderdale and Huddersfield,Southampton, County Durham and Darlington and Lewisham.

The Department of Health says tackling healthcare infections is one of its top priorities.

Hospitals have been given targets to cut MRSA infections by half and C-difficile infections by 30 per cent by 2011.

A SUPERBUG-beating robot is being tested in Manchester hospitals.

The machine sprays powerful bleach into isolation wards to kill deadly infections including MRSA and C-difficile.

Central Manchester hospitals trust has begun a four-month trial of the 'bioquell' robot, which deep-cleans rooms with hydrogen peroxide vapour in between patients.

The treatment room is sealed with the robot inside and then left for 90 minutes. The vapour is then pumped out and the room is ready for the next patient.

Central Manchester is one of seven trusts across the country to be picked for the trials.

Chief nurse Gill Heaton who is in charge of infection control at Manchester Royal Infirmary, said: "This is a landmark project, and we are very pleased to have been chosen as one of the seven pioneering sites.

"Developing an infection in hospital is a worry for many patients, and infection control is a top priority for the six hospitals in our Trust. We've worked very hard over the past year to significantly reduce infections.

A CLEANING machine made by Andover's Bioquell has been credited with eradicating MRSA at Winchester hospital - and now a consultant plans to climb a mountain to buy one.

Dr Matthew Dryden is setting off this week to climb Mt Kinabalu in Borneo and in the process hopes to raise money to pay for a Bioquell machine to help eradicate all superbugs from hospital wards.

He said: "I am hoping to get to the top of Mt Kinabalu in Borneo this week - actually it is more of a walk than a climb and lots of people have done it.

"In the process I hope to raise money for Winchester and Andover hospitals to purchase a Bioquell machine to help in the fight against superbugs including MRSA, C Diff and norovirus. "Research carried out last year showed that by using the Bioquell device we were able to completely eradicate MRSA from the clinical environment. This year we have had no serious blood stream MRSA infections."

Bioquell will match any donations towards the purchase of their technology. Anyone who would like to support the Trust to beat superbugs may sponsor Dr Dryden through the Winchester and Eastleigh Charitable Trust Fund at the hospital or on line via The Bioquell is state-of-the-art hydrogen peroxide vapour (HPV) equipment that is suitable for use in the hospital environment.

Well Scots The options seem pretty good deal to me as they 'will vest upon the achievement of performance criteria, namely the growth of pre-tax earnings per share by RPI + 7.5%' .The exercise price of 174.5p is hardly a giveaway particularly if the market tanks. I got no quibbles with it as a PI myself. I think BIOQUELL has missed a trick in the NHS with mrsa perhaps more due to the shortsightedness of nhs trusts than anything else but I love the diverse products and potential of this company. I wonder how the wound healing side is going and would love to see it spun off if it is a commercial success.

There does seem to be a buyer scooping up stock as it appears...
From a chart viewpoint it may be that a spike to 250p or so is quite possible.
Interesting situation on fundamentals too with health, defence and laboratory aspects.
