15/10/2012 22:52 | NEW DELHI, OCT. 15: BG Group believes that the recent sale of its majority stake in Gujarat Gas to Gujarat-Government controlled GSPC happened at a fair price. On whether BG sold Gujarat Gas cheap, Sami Iskander, Executive VP and MD, Africa, Central and. South Asia, BG Group said this was not the case. BG's sale price of Rs 295 a share of Gujarat Gas was sharply lower than the Rs 400 or so the share was trading at when the auction process began last November. Commenting on this, Iskander said the stock market fluctuates in a big way. He said the company was in no rush to exit the business. He did not comment on whether BG Group plans to exit other city gas distribution businesses, such as Mahanagar Gas. | philanderer

10/10/2012 11:59 | tenuous read across from Chevron according to Alphaville... Chevron talking of 3Q earnings "substantially lower" than in 2Q BE Due to lower volumes and FX losses in the upstream PM Are they really? PM Blimey BE Though we have to note that's maintenance downtime and US hurricane impacts BE Though we've got weak upstream and weak US pricing as well. BE There's some price shift thing going on here that I can't get my head around. BE Anyway, sector watcher says it's largely Chevron specific. BE * The volume trends are Chevron-specific (apart from Hurricane issues already factored into our BP nos), while CVX's international E&P business also had a strong FX gain in 2Q which will have fallen away in 3Q (2) Chevron points to "sharply lower" downstream earnings q/q * Although refining margins were strong in the quarter, this was offset by timing effects and a sharp fall in US marketing margins, particularly in the West Coast * The Richmond (California) refinery was out for two months due to a fire (which will affect 4Q too) * NB Chevron had a surprisingly strong 2Q in downstream (with its third highest ever quarterly profit) * The company points to a combination of restructuring charges in Australia and lower disposals profits contributing to a substantial decline in non-US downstream Bp PLC (BP.:LSE): Last: 434.81, down 2.79 (-0.64%), High: 436.42, Low: 432.00, Volume: 6.18m Royal Dutch Shell PLC (RDSB:LSE): Last: 2,196, down 18.11 (-0.82%), High: 2,211, Low: 2,191, Volume: 618.09k BG Group PLC (BG.:LSE): Last: 1,295, down 12 (-0.92%), High: 1,309, Low: 1,293, Volume: 835.99k | philanderer

09/10/2012 09:25 | Came across this from last week: Wednesday, 03 October 2012 BG Group plc (LON:BG) could see its share price break higher after ranging sideways since mid-May. Analyst J Wong at Investors Intelligence notes that in doing so the BG Group stock has generated plenty of failed breakouts at the 1200-1300p area. "But this picture may be changing as the stock is rallying to the top the short-term range at 1300p. A break ouf of the triangle pattern looms. Meanwhile, BG's relative strength is on the cusp of breaking the long-term downtrend," says Wong who advises on a taking a tactical long position on the stock at current levels. | philanderer
