FRP ahead of expectations (rather than behind..ish, as previously flagged) due to high liquidations volume (BEG core) with a recent increase is admins. BEG largely unchanged. I'm still trying to figure outwhat moves this stock...

Looks another nice fitting bolt-on.

BEG has built quality and scale organically and via value-accretive deals: buying Banks Long & Co ticks the box

Equity Dev holds its forecasts until FY trading update, expected later this month, and retains its 175p/share fair value. Read in new note here:

Hope so as this has been a very disappointing holding in my portfolio. I agree with you though that it's going to get worse out there for businesses which can only mean good things for Begbies.

I think all we need here is patience.

Covid spending took off in mid-2020
inflation took off mid-2021
interest rate hikes took off mid-2022
Recession and insolvencies... will take off mid-2023, IMO

I think we're starting to see that happening, and if it does, Begbies will win a lot of business.

They have been expanding the businesses and should benefit from that as the insolvencies increase. I expect the share price to break the 150p resistance and push on to 200-250p in time, IF they execute on the opportunity.

It's not a "hold forever" share, but i expect the cyclic peak is yet to come.

I'm holding.

When you consider that normal going back two decades is about 4000 per quarter, a jump to 2500 in one month is pretty big and would more befit a recession than weak growth. I think higher interest rates and energy bills have started killing off the infamous "zombies".

The jump in insolvencies also coincides with a few profit warnings in the consumer sector - SuperDry, Dr. Martens, Quiz - so I doubt it's a one-off spike. Also note the "new breathing" space orders, that are effectively a lead indicator. Their rise from about 6000 to over 8000 in the last year also suggests March will probably not be just a one-off spike.
