Dont hold BRS because of Famous Grouse because they dont make it. They are Scottish Leader and Deanstoun. You are right about Asia.

"The Famous Grouse" is a strong mid market Brand of Burns,Stewart which taken with a strong Asian market(for the company) makes +70 pence is a very realistic price.I'm in no hurry to head for the Door!

What is happening to the approach that may or not lead to an offer fron CL.

The notice was made on the 23rd April and since then little or no information has come out.

There is an interesting article in today's Business AM about Whisky exports soaring to a record 1bn bottles.

They have a table of the top ten markets by volume and South Korea has grown 26.5% in the last year. As this is a major market for Burn Stewart they will have benefited not only from the market growth but from their increased activities in that market. This leads me to suggest with prospect looking good, there should be a reasonable premium to any offer, when it is ever made.

SSL,
Well played! Old fashoined investing doesn't get much recognition on this board IMO, hope you had a few.

Hi Aquila,
Sharescope has this one's finals on 30/6/02 and the annual report 13/9/02.

Found this on Yahoo, quote from the Guardian

Shares in Burn Stewart Distillers (London: BRS.L - news) (BRS.L), the whisky company which received a takeover approach last month from 28% shareholder Angostura, rose 2¾p to 48¼p. City bulls reckon a takeout price of at least 70p a share is warranted, given the value of the Burn Stewart brand and its stockpile of quality malts.

I am a very recent shareholder ie within the last week.
It goes without saying, though it must be said that I am delighted with what has happened.
I learnt about this share through the ADVFN bulletin boards and nowhere else.

If we ever to exit in terms of some sort of sale, I can tell you right here and now there is no way this company would sell for less than 62 pence a share. Fundamentally, it is worth that. If you look at that valuation under a normalised or a more familiar EBIT multiple, then the multiple of eight against earnings of 4 million gets you to £40 million capitalisation. If you look at the projection, which we are looking at for this current year, we are at about £2.5 million if you add back something for depreciation and amortisation. Therefore, these valuations are realistic and that revised NAV at 62 pence is a very realistic way to look at Burn Stewart.

balcony,

Burn Stewart (BRS.L) 31¾p - The scotch distiller's turnover recently moved back into the black after four years of losses. The company is bullish over prospects, and with a rating of under 12 for next year's earnings, the shares are worth a look.

Regarding takeover talks , i have written in my little book that on or
around the 8.oi.oi chairman of Burn Stewart stated they would not sell for less than 62p.

I do not hold shares in this co, hope this is of assistance.

Regards Barnsey.

Of courses the rises of the last two days have been entirely coincidental! No trace of insider dealing!!
I doubt anyone is going to accept less than the 45p Angostura paid for their holding - they may well of course be the bidder
