30/3/2019 08:30 | In the Mail Yesterday : "Huawei poses Long-term National Security risk, Spy Watchdag warns" BRITAIN'S spy agency has delivered a scathing verdict on the security risks to UK telecoms from Chinese technology giant Huawei A watchdog, chaired by the head of GCHQ's National Cyber Security Centre, said there were `concerning issues' about electronics made by the firm and installed in the UK. The Huawei oversight board's report, published yesterday, says the Government is particularly concerned about `several hundred' vulnerabilities and issues reported in 2018. In many cases they relate to engineering that risks making parts of the UK's telecoms system vulnerable to cyber attack. It says: 'Over-all, the oversight board can only provide limited assurance that all risks to UK national security... can be sufficiently mitigated long-term.' `These findings are about basic engineering competence... that give rise to vulnerabilities that are capable of being exploited by a range of actors.' However, it adds: 'NCSC does not believe that the defects identified are a result of Chinese state interference.' The comments come as the Government prepares to make a decision over the launch of 5G - Britain's next generation mobile network. Huawei promised to spend £1.5billion to address concerns raised by the board. The watchdog had already indicated last year that its patience was wearing thin. Yesterday it went further, effectively issuing an ultimatum that the firm must fix the problems or be excluded from parts of Britain's telecoms network. Huawei said it took the board's concerns `very seriously' but it could take up to five years to address all of the issues. Britain's four major mobile networks have already started testing 5G technology using Huawei equipment, and they say a ban now could cost the industry hundreds of millions. A final decision on Huawei's involvement in 5G will be published in the next few weeks. The firm is beset by troubles after its chief financial officer, Meng Wanzhou, was arrested in Canada on suspicion of fraud and breaching US sanctions in December, at the request of the United States. The firm's sales director in Poland was fired after he was arrested by the country's counter-intelligence service in January on spying charges. | ![]() rawdeal1

28/3/2019 15:25 | There is a lot in the news about Huawei and the implications of using their equipment integral to 5G rollouts etc. There is considerable misunderstanding here with experts and other making wild statements. The main issue here as I see it (so this is my opinion only) Huawei equipment in itself at this point in time poses little risk if any and the intentions of the company itself are likely benign they are in the business of selling product. The problem arises when we fast forward to full adoption of 5G networks and their maintenance and control. Thats where it all goes wrong its more a matter of what could happen and how we are going to protect systems. Quite simply its a perceived risk to have Huawei equipment embedded in core infrastructure. My view is its a risk not worth taking and that we should be using home grown solutions. Telco and ARM just blew us all away with their NFVTime and Neoverse systems and approach best we keep our powder dry in our own storeroom | ![]() fse

26/3/2019 14:45 | Well as Steve Martin would say excuuuuuuuse me ! The referendum was flawed and people voted without understanding what they were voting for thats the big objection here. Now people are more au fait with the scenario and should be given another vote. Government can not break this impasse as MP's vote along party line or have to resign! Immediately following the referendum polls asked the public again how they would vote In June 2016 Remain was on 53% and Leave 47% which suggested there was an issue with the way the referendum was promoted and taken. Fast forward to Polls for March 2019 and you get "identical results" Remain 53% and leave 47%. This suggests that people want to remain in the EU but feel it needs severe maintenance. The UK is one of the big 3 in Europe and needs to act that way. Running for the door is not the correct response. Interestingly every Prime Minister in the modern day Labour and Conservative including the current caretaker PM are in favour of reforming the EU not leaving it. Winston Churchill was himself quite outspoken on the need to improve ties with Europe to prevent future wars. The EU did deliver PEACE. | ![]() fse
