05/2/2024 14:05 | Shore Capital has upgraded its forecast for IRN-BRU maker AG Barr (LON: BAG) which has appointed a new chief executive. Scotland-based AG Barr’s revenues were £400m in the year to January 2024, which is 26% ahead of the previous year. This includes a full contribution from the Boost drinks business acquired in December 2022. Organic growth was nearly 8%. All the core soft drinks brands grew. Shore has upgraded its full year pre-tax profit from £47.5m to £49.5m. The broker expects further growth to £52m in 2024-25, although this has not been upgraded. | philanderer

01/2/2024 14:01 | Begbies Traynor’s (BEG:AIM) Julie Palmer noted that ‘despite the upcoming increase to the national living wage and business rates threatening to shake up AG Barr’s balanced concoction of competitive prices and robust margins, the soft drinks stalwart appears well-positioned to weather these storms thanks to its diversified portfolio of brands and highly automated production line.’ Palmer added: ‘After more than two decades at the helm, White steps down later this year and the newcomer has some big shoes to fill at a time when businesses are battling a tricky economic backdrop. ‘Changes of the guard at the top always create some pause for thought but for the maker of Scotland’s ‘other’ national drink, there’s clearly momentum build across its stable of iconic brands which should position it well to continue to shake up an ever-evolving soft drinks market.’ sharesmagazine.co.uk | philanderer
01/2/2024 11:28 | AG Barr ready for more acquisition growth, says Liberum Irn-Bru maker AG Barr (BAG) has boosted its growth potential through acquisitions and there is scope for more purchases, says Liberum. Analyst Wayne Brown retained his ‘buy’ recommendation and target price of 600p on the drinks manufacturer, which was trading at 569p on Wednesday. He said the group is on track to expand its earnings margins towards the 14%-15% target for 2026 ‘driven by the capacity enhancement and productivity improvements through its ongoing capital investment programme’. This programme will also allow for ‘significant synergies to be achieved on the recent acquisitions of Boost and Rio’. ‘Adding brands in fast-growth categories to its portfolio via M&A has improved the group’s growth potential,’ said Brown. ‘A strong balance sheet with £47m in net cash allows for portfolio further value-accretive M&A.’ citywire.com | philanderer

11/12/2023 15:26 | Initially I was very confused by this 10th place behind a string of brand names that mean absolutely nothing outside of Scotland until I realised number one is Irn Bru!! Still doubtful Barr's is below Malcolm Allen the Butchers though! Bear in mind I do know what I'm talking about. I can remember when Malcolm Allen had two shops at Anniesland on opposite sides of the road. Great for a Lorne sausage or a steak pie but worth a fraction of Barrs even if you strip Irn Bru out. I don't mean to do down Malcolm Allen. You could say the same about all the rest of the top ten other than Tunnocks. If you did it properly Barrs is a clear number one and Tunnocks two. | makinbuks

06/11/2023 21:37 | The share price has languished around £5 mark for a long time and in fact it’s no higher than 10 years ago. I can’t help wondering if it’s a sector-wide issue or some problem specific to the company. | bathcoup
25/10/2023 07:41 | AG Barr has continued an acquisition spree which is reducing the company’s reliance on its renowned IRN BRU brand with a deal worth more than £10m. The company is paying £12.3m to buy the Rio fruit drinks brand from the Hall and Woodhouse pubs and brewing business. The deal underlines the potential that Cumbernauld-based AG Barr sees in Rio. It comes ten months after AG Barr acquired distribution rights for Rio through the acquisition of the Boost energy drinks business for up to £32m. AG Barr’s chief executive Roger White said the company had moved quickly to secure the long-term position of the Rio brand within its wider portfolio. He said the deal allowed AG Barr to realise the benefits of full brand ownership and support Rio's continued growth, adding: “This acquisition is a further positive indication of our strategic ambitions." The strategy involves extending AG Barr’s portfolio to increase its exposure to markets that directors reckon have long term growth potential. This will reduce the company’s reliance on the core IRN BRU brand. | scotches
